*Booth Library’s summer concert series – which has moved this year to The Pleasance at 1 Main Street – continues this weekend with a free concert on Saturday, July 17, by WASHBOARD SLIM & THE BLUE LIGHTS. The concert will begin at 7 pm.

The Pleasance, of course, is the park area at the corner of Main Street and Sugar Street with the gazebo, the antique fountain, the rooster sculpture and plenty of room for children of all ages to run around a bit while parents and older siblings enjoy some music. Because of the limited parking available at The Pleasance, anyone who can handle the walk is being asked to park at the library (25 Main Street) and walk down the hill to the concert site.

Bring your own chairs or blankets for seating, and also remember that while you can still bring your own refreshments to the concerts there are no trashcans at The Pleasance  – so please plan to carry out any trash you might create.

The final concert this year will be RIVER CITY SLIM & THE ZYDECO HOGS on Friday, August 13.

*The concert date for SEBASTIAN BACH, who has of late been a special guest on the WB series Gilmore Girls, will be performing at The Webster Theatre on July 23. This show was originally scheduled for the 18th, but original tickets will be honored on Friday instead of Monday.

Just announced for the Hartford venue is an August 13 show by SALIVA.

*Newtown resident Jason Glander is single-handedly putting together a music festival for area music lovers who would like to just get out of the house and do something different next weekend. “There’s not enough going on in town right now, and this is something I’ve been thinking about doing for a while,” said the University of Colorado student who’s home on summer break and itching to hear some good music.

The 1st Annual Newtown G-Fest will take place next Sunday at Dickinson Park. The July 25 event will feature performances by DAN BAILEY, GUTTER BOOGIE, GRAVY HOUND, RETZLIB FLOW, THE MENTAL GYPSIES, THE GRAPES, DRAWN INWARD, AMNESTY, and maybe a few others. Donation for the all-day event, which will start at 11:30 and run until 10 pm, is just $10 and all proceeds will be forwarded to American Heart Association.

Jason is still looking for donations to be raffled off during the festival. Gift certificates, theme baskets and single items are being collected, and proceeds from those ticket sales will also be forwarded to AHA.

There’s a full story in this week’s Enjoy section about the event. For additional information contact Jason directly at 270-9700.

Until next week I’ll be seeing you… on the road.

Questions and comments should be sent to Shannon Hicks c/o The Newtown Bee, 5 Church Hill Road, Newtown, CT 06470, or shannon@thebee.com, or call the office at 426-3141.

Shows listed at club locations are for ages 21 and over unless specified.
