Karl Svensson Jr. was 3-for-4 with a double and triple and Rick Kasbarian was 2-for-3 with a home run to lift the Inn at Newtown to a 7-4 win over Botsford Drive-In in Newtown Sunday Slo-Pitch Softball League action.

Karl Svensson Jr. was 3-for-4 with a double and triple and Rick Kasbarian was 2-for-3 with a home run to lift the Inn at Newtown to a 7-4 win over Botsford Drive-In in Newtown Sunday Slo-Pitch Softball League action.

Marc Adams also went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI to lead the Inn. Dave Bambino tripled and knocked in a couple of runs for Botsford.

In other action, the Inn crushed the Hammerheads, 31-6, behind Kasbarian, who was 7-for-7 with two home runs and eight RBI. John Grimardi was 6-for-7 with six RBI, Adams was 4-for-5 with three triples and six RBI, and Mike Porco was 5-for-7 (missing a HR for the cycle) with four RBI.

The Inn banged out 38 hits.

In a 16-8 win over G&H Tool, Kasbarian homered and Kris Svensson (three RBI), Porco (three RBI), Grimardi and Justin Fraczek banged out two hits apiece.

And in a 17-14 win over Greenleaf Tree Service, Kasbarian homered twice while Chris D’Angelo was 5-for-6 with two doubles, a triple, and three RBI. Jim McKee was 3-for-5 with a pair of triples and three RBI while Karl and Kris Svensson, together, went 6-for-12 with four doubles, a triple, and six RBI.

For Greenleaf, CJ Baranowski was 5-for-5 with four doubles and two RBI and Frank Durante Jr was 3-for-6 with a single, double, triple and three RBI. Chad Eaton chipped in with a 3-for-5 effort, driving in three runs.

On Sunday, Greenleaf nipped the Hammerheads, 14-13, as Eaton and Brian Cascone both homered. Cascone was 3-for-4 on the morning with a double, homer, and four RBI. Paul Hollis was 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBI and Doug Delvecchio was 3-for-5 with a pair of singles and a double. Eaton drove in three runs.

Women’s Slo-Pitch

 

Walker Industrials had to hold on tight against Emmett & Glander (14-10) and the Fireside Inn (18-17) to stay on top of the Women’s Slo-Pitch Softball League.

In the win over E & G, Walker (now 6-1) used a nine-run, fifth-inning explosion to rally from a 4-2 deficit. Rose DeSimone banged out three hits while Maria Ross, Sharon Vetrano, Stacy O’Donnell and Lisen Zaruba chipped in with two hits apiece. Sue “Stew” Liss and Jess Shivey combined to drive in five runs on the night.

In the win over Fireside, Walker had to dig itself out of an 8-0 hole and eventually won with a run in the top of the seventh inning. Liss led a 24-hit attack with four hits, four RBI, and three runs scored while Karen Corkum banged out four hits and scored three runs. Kathy Blewett and DeSimone combined for six hits and five RBI.

Debbie Gudz powered the Fireside with two hits and three RBI. Nina Ricciardi chipped in with a pair of hits and two RBI. Fireside, which also battled back from 13-10 and 17-13 deficits, used solid defense to force Walker into stranding 12 baserunners during the game.

In other action, Huntington Homes defeated Hot Shots, 10-1, as Marge Golankiewicz was 4-for-4 with four RBI and Diane Alicea had a two-run triple. For Hot Shots, Sarah Jane Lewis was 3-for-3 with a triple and two RBI while Cathy Swik hit the ball well and played solid defense.

In the Hot Shots’ 19-13 win over Davidson Insurance, Marcy M. belted a grand slam, Lewis tripled, and Linda Kroha played well.

In a 32-8 pounding of J&J Pools, the Hot Shots were led by Anne Rushefski, Jessica Morse, and Kroha, all of whom went 4-for-4 at the plate and played well in the field. Deb Deakin was 3-for-3, Meg Maurer tripled, and Pam Gleason played well for J&J.

Hot Shots also defeated Glander & Kerler 13-7 as Siwik went 4-for-4 and Jodee Hickey pitched a solid game. For Glander & Kerler, Sherri Baggett banged out a pair of hits.

On Monday night, Century 21 defeated J&J_Pools, 15-0, as Jeanne Carney and Sandy Dosky combined to hurl a four-hit shutout.

Century 21 improved to 2-1 on the season.

At the plate, Kelley, Dubail (3-for-4, HR), Carney (3-for-4 with a single, double and triple), Karen Katrinak (3-for-4 with three doubles) and Carolyn Bernardi (3-for-3) went a combined 13-of-17 to power the offense. Every player from Century 21 reached base safely.

After the game, J & J Pools shortstop Pam Gleason felt a bit ambivalent regarding the outcome of the game - since Pam and her husband, Bob, sponsor the Century 21 team.
