Children’s Programs

*Summer Reading: Join us at the library through August 16 for our summer reading program, “Reading Roundup.” Summer Reading is an ongoing independent reading program for children ages 4 through grade 5.

Children read books and talk about what they are reading with young adult volunteers during library hours. Participants receive coupons for pizza, ice cream, a Happy Meal, and a free paperback after reading 20 books. Readers can sign up any time during the seven-week program.

Older readers can participate in “Middle School Madness and earn chances to win prizes donated by area businesses. No registration is required.

*“Fun with Spanish” Story Time: Please note that “Fun With Spanish,” in interactive introduction to the Spanish language, will be on Tuesday mornings – July 23, July 30, and August 6 – not on Monday as previously scheduled. The preschool session will be 10:30 to 11:15 and the elementary (ages 6 and up) will be 11:30 am to 12:15 pm. No registration is required.

*Nutmeg Books Discussions: Liz Arneth is leading two book discussions on Nutmeg nominees. Flying Solo will be discussed on Friday, July 26, from 3:30 to 4:30. Next month, Heart of a Chief will be the book on Friday, August 16, during the same hour. Sign-up sheets and copies of the books are available in the children’s department.

*P.J. Story Time: Grab your blankie and your slippers and join us Wednesday evenings at the library for songs, stories and a puppet show. Programs will be July 24, July 31, and August 7, 6:30 to 7:15 pm each week, in the meeting room. No registration is required.

*8th Grade Summer Reading Assignment: Students entering 8th grade in the fall are required to read two books from a list of five, all of which are related to WWII. The list and the assignment are available in the Young Adult and Juvenile Departments.

Because of the limited availability of these books, we ask that you return them to the library as quickly as possible. If you buy the book, consider donating your copy to the library when you are finished or share it with a friend. With only five titles and several hundred students, we ask for your patients and cooperation. The library owns 20 copies of each title, but you will still need to put your name on a waiting list as soon as possible.

Adult Programs
