The Newtown Public School District announced on Monday, July 15, it hired Sandy Rodriguez as supervisor of special education.

Ms Rodriguez comes to Newtown from the Stratford Public Schools with 12 years of experience, encompassing work as an outplacement facilitator and as a psychologist in both the school and clinical settings.

Before her tenure in Stratford, she worked at Fairfield Public Schools-Mill Hill Elementary from 2004 to 2005 and at Yale New Haven Hospital from 2001-2007.

Ms Rodriguez received a bachelors degree in psychology from Albertus Magnus College in 2001, a masters degree in psychology from Fairfield University in 2004, a certificate of advanced study from Fairfield University in 2005, and her administrative certificate from Sacred Heart University in 2013.

The Board of Education voted to appoint Ms Rodriquez at a special meeting held on June 26.

“Ms Rodriguez possesses the professional background, leadership and interpersonal strengths needed to help move our pupil services department forward,” said Newtown Public School Director of Pupil Services Julie Haggard. “She will be an asset to the Newtown Public Schools and will serve our students and families well.”

Ms. Rodriguez was chosen to replace Eric Colon, who resigned earlier this year.
