On Friday, July 19, survivors of the Aurora theater massacre, families of victims, several Newtown families, gun violence prevention advocates, and local faith leaders will gather in Aurora, Colorado, to mark the one-year anniversary of the mass shooting at the Century 16 movie theater that killed 12 people and injured another 70. They will join together in a day of remembrance and a call to action, urging America’s leaders to take meaningful action to reduce gun violence nationwide.

The event will include participants of the “No More Names: National Drive To Reduce Gun Violence,” which launched from the steps of Edmond Town Hall on Friday, June 14.

Following a press conference at noon MT, participants will read the names of thousands of gun violence victims from across the country. This will last until 12:38 am on Saturday, July 20, when there will be a moment of silence at the exact time of the July 2012 shooting.

Among those planning to participate in Friday’s remembrance event are Stephen Barton, a survivor of the Aurora theater shooting; Tom Sullivan, whose 27-year-old son Alex was killed in the Aurora shooting; Caren Teves, whose 24-year-old son Alex was killed in the Aurora shooting; Erica Lafferty, whose mother was Sandy Hook School Principal Dawn Hochsprung, killed on 12/14; Carlee Soto, whose sister was SHES Teacher Victoria Soto, who also was killed on 12/14; Jane Dougherty, sister of SHES School Psychologist Mary Sherlach, killed on 12/14; Mark Glaze, the executive director of Mayors Against Illegal Guns; and Pastor Del Phillips, senior pastor of The House Worship Center, located in Denver.
