Rebels Second In Lacrosse Tournament

The Newtown Rebels summer lacrosse team competed in the Golden Goal Tournament in Lake George, NY from July 8-10. The Rebels finished as tourney runners-up. The team began the weekend with a loss to the Patriot Rifles of New Jersey, but outstanding performances by Kris Whelan, John Pierce, Nick Genovese, Mitch Savoca, Andrew Lee, and Devin Luzietti led the team to finish up the day with wins over the Patriot Minutemen of New Jersey and Progression Jr Gators of Connecticut.

There was no stopping the Rebels on day two. The strong offensive play of David Anderson, Scott Bauer, Nick Lansing, Andrew Svanda, Ethan Tousignant, Austin LeBlanc, and James Carney kept the team ahead in every game while the defensive play of Sean Wallace, Colin McCafferty, Fredrick Zering, and Christian Morlock kept the opposing teams from reaching the goal. With help of the impressive goaltending of Jack Wellman, the team went 3-0 on day two. The Rebels earned wins over Canandaigua and Greenwich of New York and the Patriot Minutemen again, in the semifinals, which landed them a spot in the championship game on Sunday.

The Rebels faced the only team that was able to outscore them, the Rifles, and put up a strong fight but fell 8-3 to finish runner-up.
