Governor Says Pink Slips Ramping Up
BLOOMFIELD (AP) â A growing number of state employees in Connecticut are beginning to receive layoff notices.
Governor Dannel P. Malloy said âlarger and larger and larger numbers of employeesâ began receiving pink slips this week. Ultimately, about 6,500 workers are expected to get notices because unionized employees rejected a labor savings deal needed to balance the two-year, $40.1 billion budget.
Malloy has until Friday to present the General Assembly with a budget-cutting plan, including layoffs, to cover the two-year, $1.6 billion budget gap that developed once the labor deal failed.
Lawmakers can decide whether to act on Malloyâs plan.
