Former Labor Day Parade Grand Marshals Sought

During the course of its 50-year history, more than 40 individuals, couples, and organizations have been honored to serve as grand marshal for the Newtown Labor Day Parade. In the early days of the parade, the parade organizer also served as the parade marshal, so there was some overlap. This year, in celebration of the 50th anniversary, the Labor Day Parade Committee is welcoming any past grand marshals in the area to join in the march once again.

“We are looking to honor and recognize those people for their hand in the history of the parade,” said committee member Steve Bigham last month. “There is quite a list of interesting people.”

The parade committee is seeking the addresses or contact information for any of those people who led the past 49 parades, in order to invite them to the September 5 event.

Information can be sent to parade committee member Brian Amey at Newtown Savings Bank, PO Box 497, Newtown CT 06470, or call Mr Bigham at 203-426-5252.
