Carolyn Joan (Spellacy) O’Mara, 78, of Sandy Hook, died July 10, at St Vincent.s Medical Center. She was born in Hartford, and was a longtime Monroe resident before moving to Sandy Hook in 2002.

Mrs O’Mara graduated from St Joseph’s College in West Hartford and was an active member of the Alumni Association.

In her earlier years, she was a social worker for the State of Connecticut, and was an employee of the Monroe School System. She was also an active member of the Walnut Tree Village Phase 2 Condo Association, and an avid fan of the UConn Huskies Women’s Basketball Team.

Survivors include her beloved husband of 55 years, Richard J. O’Mara of Sandy Hook; two daughters Maralyn Zinsky of Shelton and Kathleen Kasper, and her husband Scott, of Killingworth; three grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother, Richard Spellacy.

Funeral services took place Thursday, July 14. Interment was in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull.
