Classical Horsemanship For Our Time (©1988 by Jean Froissard and Lily Powell-Froissard, Lyons Press edition 2002, $22.95) â One of the great masters of horsemanship presents the heritage of classical theories of riding and shares of lifetime of experience with the development of a dressage horse.
Froissard holds the highest state-conferred degree â that of Ecuyer Professeur â from the French Equestrian Federation. He is the author of classic works such as A Guide to Basic Dressage, Equitation: Learning and Teaching and Jumping: Learning and Teaching. He and his wife, Lily Powell-Froissard, edited the British encyclopedic work The Horsemanâs International Book of Reference and collaborated on works published in France on equestrian and social history.
In Classical Horsmenship, he begins with the criteria for selection, then describes the progress of early training that is basic for any horse, whatever its discipline. Building systematically upon what has been learned, with constant emphasis on rewards, he then takes readers through the training progression up to the highest levels of dressage.
The emphasis throughout the book is always on the practical, rather than the theoretical.
