Contributors Thanked Following Longest Day Event
To the Editor,
On Wednesday, June 22, the Newtown Bridge Club hosted their sixth annual Longest Day event as a fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Association. For the past two years because of the pandemic, our fundraiser was online. This year, we were able to have both bridge and Scrabble games at Edmond Town Hall in the morning, afternoon, and evening.
Local restaurateurs and stores provided complimentary food that was served throughout the event. The players also enjoyed lovely dinner music by pianist Stan Kishner and his SJK Jazz Band.
We greatly appreciate Jim Taylor’s wonderful coverage of our in-person event and the two articles published in The Bee on June 17th (print edition) and July 2nd (online).
Thank you to each of our generous sponsors: Bagel Delight, Barnwood Grill, Big Y,
Blue Colony Diner, Caraluzzi’s, Dunkin’, Farmhouse Restaurant, Sal e Pepe,
Stop & Shop in Newtown, and Tambascio’s Italian Grill. You are the best!
We also hosted online games on BBO on Saturday, June 18, and Sunday, June 19. With entry fees from both the online bridge games and the in-person bridge and Scrabble games, plus donations from players, other club members, family and friends, we were able to raise over $10,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association.
The association supports those living with dementia and their caregivers, and it advances research which hopefully will find a prevention and/or a cure for this insidious disease.
Newtown Bridge Club holds three ACBL-sanctioned duplicate bridge games every week at Edmond Town Hall: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 12:30 pm. In addition, bridge lessons are offered on a regular basis for players of all levels. Sincerely,
