Susan M. Chappa, 74, of Westport, died peacefully July 12. She was the devoted wife of 40 years to the late Edmund J. Chappa, Sr, and mother of three daughters and two sons.

Mrs Chappa was born August 30, 1941, in Stamford, and was the daughter of the late Catherine (Gallace) and John Sorbara. She had been a lifelong area resident.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Frances Chappa-Rivera and Jaime Rivera of Newtown, Cheryl Chappa and Matt Hanniger of New Fairfield, Barbara and Joe Piccolo of Milford, Edmund J. and Aimee Chappa of Oxford, and Christopher J. Chappa of West Haven; one sister, Theresa Vartuli of Stamford; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was comptroller of a property management company for many years before retiring in 2004. She adored her family and enjoyed making Sunday lunch to bring them all together. She took pride in the fact that she raised five successful children and that they had passed on the traditions and values she had instilled in them. Her family was her most important possession and her greatest accomplishment.

Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, July 16, 10 am at St Luke Church, 49 North Turkey Hill Road, Westport. Interment will follow in Assumption Cemetery, Kings Highway North, Westport.
