Drug Offense
Update July 25, 2016: Charges are pending. The court appearance has been changed to August 1.
Police report they received a complaint about a motorist driving erratically on eastbound Sugar Street, near its intersection with Robin Hill Road, so they went to Sugar Street to investigate at about 4 pm on July 1.
Police said they found the vehicle in question and stopped it on Glover Avenue, after which they investigated and charged motorist Haley Knies, 24, of Norwalk, with illegal storage of prescription narcotics. Knies was released on $500 bail for a July 13 court appearance, police said.
Also, police said they issued passenger Alejandro Gomez, 23, of Norwalk an infraction for possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana and for possession of drug paraphernalia.
Hawleyville Collision
State police said that at about 4:11 pm on July 4, motorist David Geiger, 38, of 6 Taunton Lane, who was driving a 2016 Ford Explorer SUV, struck the rear end of a 2014 Toyota Camry sedan driven by Rene Montanez, 45, of Bridgeport at the end of eastbound Interstate 84's Exit 9 off-ramp.
There were no injuries. State police said they issued Geiger an infraction for following too closely.
Church Hill Crash
About 4:42 pm on July 5, motorist Brian Arbachouskas, 26, of Warwick, R.I., who was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Sonic auto, was attempting to exit a parking lot at 61 Church Hill Road, as motorist Andrew Gillotti, 53, of New Milford was driving a 2009 Subaru Forester SUV eastward on Church Hill Road, police said.
The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Arbachouskas a written warning for failure to grant the right of way. Police report they gave Gillotti a verbal warning for passing on the right.
Gelding Hill Road Collision
An accident involving two trucks occurred about 6:47 pm on July 5 on a curve on Gelding Hill Road, about 500 feet north of Bennetts Bridge Road.
Police report that William Corbett, 17, of 41 Jo-Mar Drive was driving a 2005 Dodge Ram pickup truck northward, as Randy Richiski, 41, of Stamford was driving a 2001 Isuzu NPR truck southward. While negotiating the curve, the Dodge entered the opposite lane, resulting in the two trucks colliding, police said.
There were no injuries. Corbett received a vehicular infraction, police said.
Palestine Road
At about 1:28 pm on July 6, motorist Beatriz Machado, 73, of Danbury, who was driving a 2011 Hyundai Tucson SUV, was exiting a residential driveway on Palestine Road, near Galilee Way, when she apparently depressed the accelerator pedal instead of the brake pedal and the vehicle crossed the road and entered a wooded area, driving over some rocks and logs, police said. There were no injuries.
Fox On Road
Motorist Taylor Williams, 17, of Bethel was driving a 2010 Volkswagen EOS auto westward near 22 Still Hill Road about 2:10 pm on July 6, when a fox ran across the road, police said.
Williams turned to the right to avoid the fox, but went off the right side of the road and struck some guardrailing, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Williams for making a restricted turn.
Intersection Accident
About 5:20 pm on July 6, motorist Edith Smyt, 51, of Bethel, who was driving a 2014 Volkswagen Jetta sedan, was waiting at red traffic signal on westbound Wasserman Way at its intersection with the Exit 11 ramps for Interstate 84, police said.
Westbound motorist Christina Jennings, 36, of Naugatuck, who was driving a 1988 Ford Bronco SUV, then struck the rear end of the Volkswagen, police said.
There were no injuries. Jennings received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police said.
Drug Arrest
Police said that while traveling on patrol at about 11 pm on July 6, they spotted a suspicious vehicle parked in a parking lot at an office building at 27 Glen Road, so they stopped and investigated.
After investigating, police report they charged a person under age 18 with possession of narcotics, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Following arrest processing, police turned over the youth to a parent. The youth is scheduled to appear in Juvenile Court on August 8.
Warrant
After learning that police held a warrant for her arrest, Ellen Porubanik, 55, of Southbury, went to the police station on the morning of July 7 and was charged with fifth-degree larceny, police said.
The charge stems from a March incident at the Blue Colony Diner at 66 Church Hill Road in which Porubanik, a customer, allegedly stole a cellphone which was being held for safekeeping by the diner's staff, after another customer had lost that cellphone there, police said.
Police said that after processing the charge, they released Porubanik on a written promise to appear on July 21 in Danbury Superior Court.
Hattertown Road
Motorist Frances Madison, 65, of Roxbury, Mass., who was driving a 2005 Toyota Corolla sedan at Hattertown Road, about 100 feet north of its intersection with Oak Ridge Drive, was involved in a collision with a 2006 Acura MDX SUV driven by Abigail Odoms, 19, of 189 Hattertown Road, at about 3:49 pm on July 7, police report.
There were no injuries. Police said they gave Madison a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.
Arrest Warrant
Police report that after learning that they held a warrant for her arrest, Malissa Sasda, 19, of Bethel, turned herself over to police at the police station on the afternoon of July 8 and was charged with fourth-degree larceny, stemming from an April incident.
Police said that Sasda, who was an employee at The Toy Tree at 14 Church Hill Road, allegedly stole $1,305 in cash from that store.
Following arrest processing, police released Sasda on $250 bail for a July 21 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
Warrant
After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Christopher Stites, 41, of Shelton, went to the police station on the afternoon of July 8 and was charged with second-degree failure to appear in court, police said.
State police had charged Stites with two motor vehicle violations on May 5. Stites later did not make a scheduled appearance in court, resulting in the warrant against him being issued by the court.
After processing on July 8, Newtown police released Stites on $500 bail for an August 2 appearance in Derby Superior Court.
Sugar Street Accident
At about 3:51 pm on July 8, motorist Kate Johnson Faulkner, 19, of Bethel, who was driving a 2006 Hyundai Sonata sedan westward on Sugar Street, near Baldwin Road, stopped for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by westbound motorist Amber Laptik, 23, of Danbury, who was driving a 2007 Toyota Corolla sedan, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said they issued Laptik an infraction for following too closely.
Van vs Pickup
Police report a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Sugar Street and Elm Drive about 5:54 pm on July 8.
The accident involved William Newmark, 62, of 16 Hitfield Road, who was driving a commercial 2016 Ford Transit van, and Richard Cartolano, 39, of New Milford, who was driving a 2014 Nissan Titan pickup truck, according to police.
There were no injuries. Newmark received an infraction for unsafe backing, police said.
Evading Responsibility
Police learned about 7:44 pm on July 9 that an unknown motorist had struck an unoccupied 2013 Kia Soul SUV, which was parked in a handicapped parking space in front of the Big Y supermarket at 6 Queen Street. The unknown driver hit the Kia's rear bumper and then drove away, police said. The incident is under investigation.
Motorcycle Accident
Motorcyclist Jason Hogenauer, 28, of 6 Georges Hill Road, was riding a 1998 Yamaha XV-1100/S northward on Stony Brook Road, near Currituck Road, about 7:55 am on July 11, when while negotiating a sharp curve in the road, he lost control of the motorcycle and it tipped over onto its left side, skidding along the road, police report.
Hogenauer was transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said. Hogenauer received a written warning for making a restricted turn, police said.
Beaver Dam Road Accident
Police report a two-vehicle accident on Beaver Dam Road, a narrow, curving, dirt road that has eroded shoulders, at about 8:19 am on July 11.
Motorist Rolen Altamirano, 46, of Weston was driving a 2004 Toyota Tundra pickup truck eastward, as motorist Cheryl Engels, 49, of 149 Brushy Hill Road was driving a 2014 Subaru Impreza auto eastward, police said.
As the two vehicles approached each other, both motorists attempted to stop, but the vehicles made contact, police said. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.
Main Street Crash
Police report a two-vehicle accident about 110 feet south of the Main Street flagpole intersection about 2:16 pm on July 11.
Motorist Adam Weber, 17, of 84 Currituck Road, who was driving a 2005 Nissan X-Terra SUV northward on Main Street, stopped abruptly to avoid striking a noncontact vehicle which was stopping in front of the Nissan, but was then struck from behind by northbound motorist James Craig, 18, of 23 Schoolhouse Hill Road, who was driving a 2000 Chrysler Concorde sedan, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Craig for following too closely.
Dodgingtown Accident
A two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Dodgingtown Road and Hattertown Road in Dodgingtown about 5:30 pm on July 11.
Motorist Amanda Hirt, 22, of Danbury, who was driving a 2014 Hyundai Elantra auto, stopped at a stop sign on Hattertown Road, as motorist Justin Hillyer, 35, of 69 Charter Ridge Drive, was driving a 2015 Jeep Wrangler SUV eastward on Dodgingtown Road, police said.
The Hyundai then entered Dodgingtown Road and the two vehicles collided, police said.
The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps medically evaluated Hirt at the scene for pain, police said. Dodgingtown volunteer firefighters went to the accident. Hirt received an infraction for failure to obey a stop sign, according to police.
Misuse Of 911 System
Police said an emergency 911 call was placed on July 12 in which the caller stated that a stranger was attacking a person at a Newtown residence.
Police said that the incident did not occur and was falsely reported. After investigating, police arrested Neal Profeta, 55, of Waterbury, charging him with misuse of the emergency 911 system. The charge is a Class B misdemeanor.
After processing, police released Profeta on a written promise to appear in Danbury Superior Court on July 27.
Three Motor Vehicle Charges
Motorist Daniel Thebodo, 50, of 35 Appleblossom Lane, who was driving a 2015 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, was waiting in traffic on southbound Main Street, near Sugar Street, at about 6:24 pm on July 13, when southbound motorist Denise Rodriguez, 27, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2008 Saturn Aura sedan, struck the rear end of the Toyota, police report.
There were no injuries. Police said they issued Rodriguez an infraction listing charges of failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, driving an unregistered vehicle, and failure to carry a valid automotive insurance identification card.
