TheatreWorks To Hold Casting Call

NEW MILFORD — TheatreWorks New Milford is seeking eight men and five women for its upcoming production of The Compleat Female Stage Beauty by Jeffrey Hatcher.

Directed by Jane Farnol of Kent, this clever backstage comedy tells the true story of Edward Kynaston, a Restoration-period actor celebrated for his genius at playing female roles. When King Charles II responds to the request of his mistress — the infamous Nell Gwyn — and lifts the ban on women appearing on the English stage, Kynaston’s world collapses until his ex-dresser takes it upon herself to make him into the man he never was.

The stage play was adapted into the popular movie Stage Beauty, starring Claire Danes, Billy Crudup and Rupert Everett in 2004.

Auditions will be held at TheatreWorks on Monday, July 17, and Tuesday, July 18, from 7 to 9 pm. The call is seeking a cast aged between 20 and 50. English accents are a must.

All roles are available and both professionals and amateurs are welcome. The audition will consist of readings from the script. No appointments are necessary. TheatreWorks offers a stipend to all performers, technicians, and directors. For character breakdowns and directions visit TheatreWorks.us.

Rehearsals will begin Monday, August 7 (usually Monday through Thursday evenings), with performances on Fridays and Saturdays, September 22 through October 21, and Sunday, October 8.

TheatreWorks New Milford, an award-winning regional theatre company is at Brookside Avenue, just off Route 202.
