Native American Interpreters At IAIS

WASHINGTON — For the second consecutive year, The Institute for American Indian Studies (IAIS) is presenting a village interpreter program in its outdoor Algonkian Village.

Each weekend, from noon until 4 pm, a Native American will be in the village to provide visitors a better understanding of the history, culture, and social values of Eastern Woodland Indians. The museum grounds, which includes the village, is at 38 Curtis Road.

In addition, the interpreters will demonstrate various crafts, outdoor cooking, dancing and other traditional skills and lifeways indigenous to the native peoples of New England.

Scheduled to be in the village through August 29 are Jeanne Kent (Abenaki), Janis Us (Mohawk-Shinnecock), Terri Delahanti (Cree), and William Gloade (Mi’Kmaq).

For further information, contact IAIS at 860-868-0518.
