Doo Wop Vocals Will Open Concert Series
Doo Wop Vocals Will Open Concert Series
In Harmony, formerly Harmony Street, bills itself as âwithout a doubt New Englandâs premier Doo-wop vocal group.â The vocal ensemble â which is made up of two guys, three girls and a multi-talented synthesizer/keyboardist â will open the 2006 series concerts sponsored by C.H. Booth Library (and, for this week, co-sponsored by Newtown Parks & Rec) with a free concert on Saturday, July 15, at The Pleasance, the garden-park at the corner of Main Street and Sugar Street (Route 25 at 302).
Performances begin at 7 pm.
Dee Heavrin is an original member of In Harmony, and has always found joy in singing. When not performing with In Harmony she is in real estate.
Robin Miller is also an original member of In Harmony. Her version of âCome Back To Me,â a tune originally recorded by Margo Sylvia, was chosen to be on the Starlight CD collection. When not performing Ms Miller is co-owner of Escape Salon and Spa in Bethel.
Also an original member, Scott Poarch is the bass-baritone of the group who, with his deep rich voice, drives the tempo of such songs like âRama Lama Ding-Dongâ and âBlue Moon.â When not performing he is an engineer with Sikorsky Aircraft.
Lenny Seiterâs voice, style and background have been an outstanding addition. Songs like Cara Mia Mine and You Belong To Me leave audiences wanting more. When not performing with In Harmony, Mr Seiter is a cantor at St. Raymondâs Church in the Bronx.
Adrienne Lisko has performed for many years in community and state choral groups and several community theaters. An operations manager for Cendant Mobility, her talent is a perfect fit for the ladies of In Harmony.
Finally, Peter Randazzo brings exceptional talents together with modern technology and sounds that have made In Harmonyâs musical backup better than ever. Mr Randazzo is a vocal coach, musical director, and owner of Steppin Out Productions.
Over the past 18 years, while performing as Harmony Street, the group has worked with such legendary doo-wop acts as Johnny Maestro & The Brooklyn Bridge, The Drifters, The Platters, The Dimensions, The Dubs, The Tokens, Lou Christy, Randy and The Rainbows, The Jive Five. The group has also been called on to perform at The White House for President Clinton, and at the home of Terry Stewart, CEO of The Rock &Roll Hall of Fame.
The group performed its a cappella arrangement of The Star Spangled Banner to a sold out crowd at Shea Stadium in 1999, and has been heard on several oldies radio programs, including âDon K Reedâs Doo-Wop Shopâ on CBS-FM in New York, âJohn Bunnellâs Solid Gold Rock and Roll Partyâ on WWCO Radio in Waterbury, Ken Jordanâs âSunday Nite Hall of Fameâ on WELI in New Haven, and Gary Lee Schwartz/Rick McCaffreeâs âSolid Gold Jukebox,â on 97.7 FM Poughkeepsie.
Concertgoers are welcome to picnic under the stars with friends and neighbors (there are no trash cans at The Pleasance, however, so all are also asked to carry out whatever they bring ing). Bring blankets or low lawn chairs for seating.
This yearâs series will continue on Friday, August 18, with Goldrush, and then concludes on Friday, September 8, with The Golden Angel Jazz Band.
In the event of rain on any of the concert dates, the shows will move into the lower meeting room at the library, 25 Main Street. The library can be reached by calling 426-4533.
