2006 Radius: Professional Practice Series

For Artists

RIDGEFIELD — The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum and Ridgefield Guild of Artists announce a call for entries for the 2006 exhibition and professional development program, “Radius: Emerging Artists from Connecticut and Southeastern New York.”

“Radius” is open to any artist resident in Connecticut, or Westchester, Putnam, or Dutchess counties in New York, who does not have commercial gallery representation in a major market.  Works may be in any medium and submitted via slides, prints, CD, DVD, or videocassette.

There is no entry fee. All submissions must be received or postmarked by August 18.

A complete prospectus and application is available at AldrichArt.org or RGoA.org.

Entering its ninth year, “Radius” is a collaborative effort between The Aldrich and the Guild. The goal of the series is to identify under-recognized regional artists.

The jurors for artist selection this year are Debra Browne, director of exhibitions at the Guild, and Harry Philbrick, director of The Aldrich.

The selected artists will participate in a one-on-one review of their portfolios and original work with a museum or guild curator or director focusing on professional development.

Works selected during this review will be seen in a group exhibition to be mounted this fall.  Additionally, works by the artists will be published in an illustrated brochure.

Also included in the “Radius” series is the Professional Practice Forum, which discusses the logistics of the art market and provides professional development and practical advice for the artists, and will take place on the day of the exhibition opening. This event is also open to the public free of charge.
