A Celebration Of Love At Newtown Senior Center
Back in May, members of Newtown Senior Center were invited to loan a favorite wedding photo for a month-long display in June.
The growing collection was then moved into the large meeting room of the center on June 28, when they provided a beautiful background to a Weddings Celebration event.
Nearly 40 people joined the midday offering. Gold and silver decorations hung from each side of the room’s doorway, and two collections of the special photos had been moved into the room.
One collection was set up atop the senior center piano, while the second filled the top of a storage chest on the opposite side of the room.
Additional photos were printed and pasted to an easel near the storage chest. The easel collection even included photos from NSC staff members Wendy Devereaux and Nicole Nicholson.
Lunch opened the midday program, which continued with dessert offerings that included a beautiful wedding cake. Irene Morrison was given the honor of cutting the cake after Devereaux surveyed the room to see if anyone in attendance was celebrating their wedding anniversary that month.
Devereaux also invited guests to share “memories of your current love, your previous love, or even love in general.”

Unfortunately no one took her up on that invitation. However, conversations were lively, and decorations included small bottles of bubbles. An occasional burst of bubble went up, often drawing laughter or brief clapping from those nearby.
