Summer Camps Continue Across Town

Camps continued to entertain students this week, with Newtown Continuing Education’s SMART (Summer Music and Arts) programs continuing through a second week of the first session of programs offered at Head O’ Meadow Elementary School, and the Parks and Recreation Department’s programs running at different locations around town.

Food Fun for the Summertime, overseen by Sharon Martovich, was busy just an hour into its first day on Monday, July 9, with participating students working to make buffalo chicken dip while peach cobber baked in an oven at Newtown Middle School.

In another program, students voiced excitement in one of NMS’s art rooms on Monday as they worked on clay sculptures in Parks & Rec’s Paint, Draw and More course, overseen by Barbara Hager.

The SMART programs are set to have a showcase at the end of this week before the second session of the programs begin.

A full listing of summer programs through Parks & Recreation are available at www.newtownct.gov. Brochures and information on all summer programs are also in the Parks & Rec office, 3 Main Street, 203-270-4340. More information about the SMART programs is available off of the school district’s website, www.newtown.k12.ct.us.
