Pours + Poses Stretches + Supports The Susie Foundation
Newtown resident Julia Murphy was among the people stretching, breathing, and otherwise supporting The Susie Foundation on June 26 at Reverie Brewing Company when a Pours + Poses event was held.
Murphy organized the event to combine her love of yoga and helping families living with ALS, as previously reported in The Newtown Bee.
Cynthia Bearison was the yoga instructor for the event, and everything was streamed for those who wanted to attend from home.
“I started The Susie Foundation because my mom is the Susie in The Susie Foundation,” said Ryan Matthews just before the roughly one-hour yoga class began.
According to thesusiefoundation.org, the foundation’s mission is to, “Provide families living with ALS with compassionate and enduring support services.”
Matthews thanked everyone who attended the event and explained that Pours + Poses fundraisers, and other types of events, all help support The Susie Foundation’s efforts.
After the introduction, the yoga class began. Yoga mats were situated around the brewery, from the bar to near the entrance. Each ticket for the event included one pint at Reverie.
The Susie Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization focused on changing the lives of young caregivers and families who live with ALS, according to a release for the event. Since 2013, the foundation has raised more than $550,000 to provide innovative, compassionate, enduring, and life-changing support services to patients, caregivers, and families living with the challenges of ALS.
