ARC Pumptrack At Fairfield Hills This Afternoon
American Ramp Company, or ARC, will be bringing a pumptrack into Newtown for a few hours this afternoon.
ARC's 2016 Summer Pumptrack Tour is traveling around the country, stopping in cities and towns with a pumptrack and additional obstacles so that boarders, bicyclers and even scooter users can try one of the Joplin, Mo.-based company's latest offerings.
A pumptrack is a structure that uses an up and down "pumping" motion to propel bikes, skateboarders or even scooters forward. Pumptracks are a perfect structure for practicing balance, learning skills and improving confidence, plus a blast to ride. The Summer Pumptrack Tour - which has already visited Arizona, Massachusetts, Maine, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Rhode Island and Utah, among other states - allows communities to demo "the hottest trending action sports product," according to information from ARC.
The purpose of this tour, also according to ARC, is to demonstrate the popularity and in turn need for more action sports infrastructure.
Newtown will host the Pumptrack Tour stop on Tuesday, July 12, when the track is open from 3 to 6 pm. The tour stop will be set up within Fairfield Hills, off Wasserman Way.
All ages and all ability levels are welcome. Those participating will need to provide their own equipment, including helmets.
Waivers will also need to be signed, which can be done on site.
The ARC Pumptrack Tour stop in Newtown is being hosted by Newtown Parks & Recreation. For additional information call 203-270-4340.
