High Rock Crash
High Rock Crash
Motorist Rosado Anderson, 31, of Orlando, Fla., who was driving a 1995 Chevrolet southbound on High Rock Road about 8:18 am July 10, stopped for a stop sign at the intersection of High Rock Road and Grayâs Plain Road, and was then struck from behind by southbound motorist Karen Perkins, 68, of Fairfield, who was driving a 2000 Volkswagen Passat station wagon, police said.
There were no injuries. Police issued Perkins a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Flagpole Collision
Motorist Robert Nash, 60, of 14 Georgeâs Hill Road, who was driving a 1997 Toyota pickup truck westbound on Church Hill Road at about 3:29 pm July 9, stopped for traffic at Church Hill Roadâs intersection with Main Street, and was hit from behind by motorist Donal Flewellyn, 29, of 23 Tunnel Road, who was driving a 1993 Chevrolet pickup truck, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said Flewellyn failed to drive a reasonable distance apart and failed to carry a vehicle registration.
South Main Accident
Motorist Margaret Mahony, 42, of 28 Horseshoe Ridge Road, who was driving a 2002 Honda southbound on South Main Street near Greenbriar Lane about 2:56 pm July 11, stopped to make a left turn into a driveway and was then struck from behind by southbound motorist Christian Deluca, 20, of 2 Elm Drive, who was driving a 1995 Ford Taurus, police said.
Mahony reported back pain but refused medical attention, police said.
Police charged Deluca with operating a motor vehicle while under suspension and with failure to keep a reasonable distance apart. Deluca is scheduled to appear in court July 23.
Riverside Road
Motorist Janice Markey, 31, of 59 Riverside Road was driving a 2000 Nissan Maxima sedan eastbound on that road near the townâs multipurpose center about 10:30 am July 9, when she heard a loud noise, police said.
Markey then noticed that her left-side exterior rear-view mirror had been damaged, police said. A red minivan, which was traveling in the opposite direction, had apparently smashed into the Nissanâs mirror, police said. Markey was not injured. Police ask anyone with information about the accident to contact them at 426-5841.
Rear-Ender
Motorist John Jasinski, 21, of Southbury, who was driving a 2000 Nissan Maxima northbound on South Main Street at about 7:54 pm July 11, stopped to make a left turn into the parking lot of Craminuccioâs Pizza at 76 South Main Street, and was struck from behind by northbound motorist Leah Blewett, 18, of 136 Taunton Hill Road, who was driving a 1995 Saturn SC-2, police said.
There were no injuries. Police issued Blewett a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Hawleyville Accident
Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Hawleyville Road and Farrell Road about 8:38 am July 11.
Motorist Marilouise Bruens, 49, of Woodbury, who was driving a 1997 Dodge Caravan northbound on Hawleyville Road, signaled to make a left turn onto Farrell Road and was struck from behind by northbound motorist Elizabeth Groonell, 34, of 7 Washbrook Road, who was driving a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee, police said.
The Stony Hill volunteer ambulance unit transported Bruens to Danbury Hospital to be checked for neck injuries, police said. Hawleyville firefighters went to the accident.
 Newtown volunteer ambulance staffers transported two rear-seat passengers in the Jeep to the hospital to be checked for injuries as a precaution, police said. They are infant Hanna Groonell, 24 days old, and Mathew Groonell, 4, both of 7 Washbrook Road.
Police issued Elizabeth Groonell an infraction ticket for following too closely.

Currituck DUI
Police report they observed motorist Gregory Capozzi, 28, of Trumbull driving a 1995 Chevrolet Tahoe sport-utility vehicle at high speed southbound on Currituck Road about 10:40 pm on July 13. Police stopped Capozzi to investigate and then charged him with driving under the influence and traveling too fast.
After processing his arrest at the police station, police released Capozzi on bond for a July 25 appearance in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charges.
DUI Arrest
Police said they saw motorist Paul Amyot, 53, of Katonah, N.Y., driving a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta eastbound on Wasserman Way and crossing the roadâs center line at about 10:48 pm on July 13.
Police stopped Amyot and gave him field sobriety tests, after which they charged him with driving under the influence and failure to drive to the right.
After processing his arrest at the police station, police released Amyot on bond for an August 2 appearance in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charges.

Queen Street DUI
Police said they saw motorist Ricardo Carde, 45, of Bridgeport driving erratically on Queen Street about 8:46 pm July 13, after which they stopped him and investigated.
Following a round of field sobriety tests, police charged Carde with driving under the influence and failure to drive to the right.
After processing his arrest at the police station, police released Carde on bond for a July 30 appearance in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charges.
South Main Street
Police said they stopped motorist James W. Tanner, 21, of 13 Dodgingtown Road for high speed travel at about 1 am July 13 on South Main Street. Tanner was charged with traveling unreasonably fast and operating a motor vehicle while under suspension. Police released Tanner on a promise to appear July 31 in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charges.
DUI/Drugs
Police stopped Patricia King, 45, of Trumbull for erratic driving on July 8, after she had turned the red 1994 Jeep station wagon that she was driving into Rickyâs Shopping Center at 71 South Main Street.
 Police said they determined that King was intoxicated and that a search of the Jeep turned up narcotics and marijuana. King was charged with driving under the influence, possession of narcotics, and possession of marijuana.
After processing Kingâs arrest, police released her on a $100 bond for a July 23 appearance in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charges.
Walnut Tree Village
Police report they were called to the Walnut Tree Village condominium complex on Walnut Tree Hill Road in Sandy Hook at about 9 am July 12 in response to a report of an argument.
Police said they charged Pedro Garcia, no age given, of Waterbury with breach of the peace. Police said Garcia allegedly had become aggressive and attempted to assault another male. During the course of the argument, the victim fell down, injuring his hand and elbow.
 Garcia is scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on July 30 to answer the charge.

Hawleyville Crash
Police report a two-vehicle accident on Hawleyville Road, near the Hawleyville Post Office about 9 am July 11.
Motorist William Brunetti, Jr, 27, of 77 Butterfield Road, was driving a 2002 Dodge pickup truck southbound on Hawleyville Road, while motorist John Hegarty, 48, of Brookfield was driving a 1999 Ford Explorer northbound there, police said.
The Dodge then turned left at the post office entrance, colliding with the Ford.
Brunetti received head injuries, and a front-seat passenger in the Dodge, Hunter Brunetti, 3, of the same address, received unknown injuries, police said. Hegarty received back and neck injuries, police said. Hawleyville firefighters went to the accident.
 Police issued Brunetti a written warning for making a restricted turn.
New Lebbon Deer
Motorist Edward Mead, Jr, 51, of Shelton was driving a 1997 Ford Econoline van southbound on New Lebbon Road near Beagle Terrace at about 1:11 pm July 5, when a deer ran out onto the road, police said.
Mead slowed down, but he lost control of the van, striking two trees along the northbound road shoulder and coming to rest in the woods.
The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Mead to Danbury Hospital for treatment of head, rib and arm injuries, police said. Botsford firefighters went to the accident.
Police issued Mead an infraction ticket for failure to drive to the right.
Falling Rocks
Police report two separate incidents early on the afternoon of July 12, in which rocks fell from a construction project atop the Church Hill Road railroad overpass, damaging the vehicles that were traveling beneath the span.
At about 12:54 pm, motorist Ruth Hensel, 66, of 21 Philo Curtis Road was driving a 1996 Chevrolet Lumina westbound under the overpass when rocks fell onto the auto, damaging the windshield. Hensel was not injured, police said.
At about 1:33 pm, motorist Linda Bald, 42, of Southbury was driving a 2001 Toyota RAV-4 compact sport-utility vehicle eastbound beneath the overpass, when rocks fell onto her hood, windshield, and roof, damaging them, police said. Bald was not injured.
Police list Mohawk Northeast of Newington as the firm doing work on the bridge at the time. Police took no enforcement action in either case. The state is replacing the antiquated railroad bridge with a new bridge.
Rolling Spare
Motorist Christopher Zanard, 45, of Southbury, was driving a 1986 Chevrolet pickup truck and turning right from northbound Queen Street onto eastbound Church Hill at about 9:36 am July 12, when a spare tire that was mounted beneath the truck fell off and started rolling, police said.
The rolling tire then smashed into motorist Joyce Matusik, 40, of 6 Riverside Road, who was driving a 1998 Acura sedan westbound on Church Hill Road, police said.
There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Zanard for having an unsecured load.

Main Street Collision
Police report a two-vehicle accident on Main Street in front of Edmond Town Hall about 10:45 am July 12.
Motorist Roy Tompkins, 49, of Greenwich, who was driving a 1995 Toyota pickup truck, backed out of a perpendicular parking space in front of town hall and then struck a 1974 Oldsmobile Delta 88, which was parked alongside the northbound lane and driven by Thomas Kearns, 67, of 9 Bennetts Bridge Road, police said. There were no injuries. Police said Tompkins performed unsafe backing and had failed to renew the truckâs registration.
Flagpole Crash
Police report a two-vehicle accident at the Main Street flagpole about 3:10 pm July 11.
While traveling on Main Street, motorist Kevin Woessner, 16, of 25 Clearview Drive, who was driving a 1989 Mazda pickup truck, stopped to allow another motorist to make a turn, police said.
Motorist Blerta Mehmeti, 18, of Danbury, who was driving a 1996 Ford Windstar, could not stop in time and struck the rear end of the Mazda, police said.
There were no injuries. Police gave Mehmeti a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Truck Vs Buick
Motorist Paul Cappellini, 65, of 16 Evergreen Road, who was driving a 1993 Buick Roadmaster station wagon, had been traveling westbound on Schoolhouse Hill Road and then stopped at a stop sign at its intersection with Hanover Road, about 10:40 am July 6, police said.
The Buick then proceeded into the intersection and was struck by a southbound 2002 International 4300 truck driven by Walter Garcia, 42, of Danbury, who had failed to stop at a stop sign on Hanover Road, police said.
Police said they issued Garcia a written warning for failure to obey a stop sign.
Motorcycle Crash
State police report that at about 8:10 am on July 11, heavy traffic on westbound Interstate 84 was coming to a stop, just east of Exit 10.
Gary Frye, 56, of Marietta, Ohio, who was driving a 1996 Honda motorcycle that was towing a motorcycle trailer, braked in response to the slowing traffic, but the motorcycle trailer began to sway and the motorcycle flipped onto its side, state police said.
 Frye received minor cuts. A passenger on the motorcycle, Jo-Lea Frye, 51, received ankle cuts, state police said. Sandy Hook firefighters went to the accident. The crash caused travel delays.
On-Ramp Accident
Motorist Kimberly Snow, 20, of 60 Tomahawk Trail, who was driving a 1995 Ford Windstar on Interstate 84âs eastbound on-ramp at Exit 10, lost control of the vehicle on wet pavement about 10 pm July 9 and went into a spin, striking a length of guard cabling alongside the ramp, state police said. Snow was wearing a seatbelt and the vehicleâs airbags deployed. Snow was not injured. State police said Snow was driving too fast for conditions.
VW Vs Jeep
Police said motorist Frederic Gleason, 77, of 135 Castle Hill Road, who was driving a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta westbound on Church Hill Road near Exit 10 of Interstate 84 about 8:16 am July 16, struck the rear end of a westbound 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Nancy Barra, 42, of 3 Ford Road. Police issued Gleason an infraction ticket for following too closely.
Berkshire Collision
Motorist Miguel Angel, 37, of Stamford, who was driving a 1995 Chevrolet pickup truck eastbound on Berkshire Road near Toddy Hill Road in heavy traffic at about 3:38 pm July 13, struck the rear end of an eastbound 2000 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by AJ Paloian, 63, of 199 Berkshire Road, police said.
Newtown ambulance staffers treated Paloian at the scene for injuries. Police issued Angel a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Mitsubishi Vs Subaru
At a red traffic signal on Mile Hill Road at its intersection with South Main Street at about 1:18 pm on July 13, motorist Rose Lederman, 45, of Monroe, who was driving a 2000 Mitsubishi Galant, accidentally let her foot slide off the brake pedal, allowing the Mitsubishi to roll forward into a 2001 Subaru station wagon driven by John Lariccia, 51, of 7 Prospect Drive, police said.
There were no injuries. Police issued Lederman a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Truck Hits Bridge
About 8 am July 16, trucker Ramon Dosreis, 22, of Carmel, N.Y., was driving a 2001 GMC delivery truck eastbound on Botsford Hill Road, when the top of the vehicle smashed into the bottom of the low-clearance railroad overpass near Wickes Lumber, police said. The impact peeled the roof off the truck. Dosreis was not injured. Police said Dosreis failed to obey low-clearance warning signs.
Motorcycle Crash
Police said motorist Bridget Holmes, 17, of 16 Glover Avenue was driving a 2000 Subaru Impreza station wagon westbound on Church Hill Road through the intersection of that road and the Interstate 84 eastbound ramps at about 1:26 pm July 14, when motorcyclist Joel Weinstein, 20, of Waterbury, who was driving a 1983 Suzuki GS-650M, turned left from the off-ramp and collided with the Subaru. Newtown Hook and Ladder firefighters went to the accident.
The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Weinstein to Danbury Hospital for treatment of head, arm and leg, injuries, police said. The accident is under investigation.
Mailbox In Tree
Police report that a man told them on July 11 that he had found a mailbox lodged in a tree at 49 Botsford Hill Road in Botsford.
Police describe the item as a white mailbox with the number #53 on its side. Anyone with information on the matter is asked to contact police at 426-5841.
Farrell Road
Motorist Christopher Knapp, 16, of Patricia Lane was driving a 1990 Oldsmobile Regency westbound on Farrell Road at about 6:30 pm July 17, when he sneezed, veered to the right, and struck a utility pole, police said.
Knapp was not injured. Police said they issued him a written warning for making a restricted turn.
Intersection Collision
Motorist Kristina Johnson, 16, of 30 Ashford Lane was driving a 1989 Buick Century on Schoolhouse Hill Road at about 4:15 pm July 17, while motorist Joseph Ward, 40, of Torrington, was driving a 1999 Hyundai Elantra on Edmond Road, police said.
The Hyundai then entered the roadsâ intersection, colliding with the Buick, police said.
Police said Ward and Allison Koch, 15, of Cannon Drive, who was a passenger in the Buick, received treatment at the scene from the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
Police issued Ward an infraction ticket for a stop sign violation.
Mt Pleasant
Motorist Rebecca Reed, 37, of Taunton Lake Drive, who was driving a 2001 Acura 3.5-RL sedan northbound on Mt Pleasant Road at about 12:40 pm July 17, stopped and was waiting to make a left turn onto Mt Pleasant Terrace, when she was struck from behind by northbound motorist Fernandos Jantos, 30, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 1997 Ford Econoline van, police said.
The impact spun the Acura around 180 degrees, with the auto landing on turf alongside the southbound road shoulder. There were no injuries, police said.
Police issued Jantos an infraction ticket for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
