The Friends of Newtown Seniors (FONS) is excitedly planning its Summer Soiree at Aquila’s Nest Vineyards, 56 Pole Bridge Road, on August 6 from 5-8 pm. The soiree tickets are $24 a person and include one glass of wine, appetizers, and live music provided by Solid Gold Times Two. The deadline to RSVP is July 29. This will be a private event, so no food trucks will be available and all in attendance are welcome to use both the indoor and outdoor spaces of the vineyard.

There will be a 50/50 raffle and a raffle for an $80 gift certificate to Aquila’s Nest Vineyards. The 50/50 tickets are $1 per ticket, or an arm’s length for $5. The gift certificate raffle tickets are $5 each. Attendees are encouraged to bring a picnic basket and their friends and family to the event.

FONS’ mission is to provide advocacy and services to seniors in town. This soiree is just one example of how FONS brings the community together to elevate the quality of life for seniors in Newtown. Other ways they assist seniors include offering rides for those who may not have cars or are unable to drive to doctor appointments. In addition, through FONS’ Chore Services Program, volunteers come and assist others with landscaping, changing smoke detector batteries, and organizing the home.

“FONS sponsors a lot of events, for example the Picnics at the Park with Parks & Rec,” FONS board member Frank Monette said. This event coincides with the Summer Concert Series at Dickinson Memorial Park on Thursday nights.

FONS offers discounted tickets for The Little Theatre shows and also walks in the Labor Day Parade every September.

For questions, or to RSVP to the event, call Beverly Bennett-Schaedler at 203-430-0633, or Louise Cronin at 475-236-1111.
