Taylor Brady has always been tremendously athletic; she entered into high school with the plan to play three sports. Little did she know that lacrosse would be one of them, and that it would turn out to be her best sport among the three — including soccer and basketball — at the Waterbury-based Chase Collegiate School.

Softball was supposed to be the spring sport. “Going into high school I’d never played lacrosse before,” Brady said. But some of the girls on the soccer team encouraged her to give lacrosse a try and, after a little hesitation, she picked up a stick and quickly picked up the ins and outs of the game. Four years later, Brady capped off her Chase career by leading the lacrosse team with 98 goals. Brady was named Chase’s Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year in her senior campaign after earning All New England honors in each of her sports.

A sweeper for the soccer team, Brady contributed on both ends of the field. When she wasn’t preventing the opposition from scoring, she was putting the ball into the net. Brady was a corner kick specialist — and not always for setting up her teammates. She actually netted three goals in one game directly off corner kicks. Did somebody say “Bend It like Brady?”

From the fields to the courts, Brady continued to excel. As the point guard on the basketball team, she averaged 12.5 points per game. Basketball is Brady’s favorite sport.

The tri-sport athlete is headed to Villanova University in Pennsylvania in the fall where she will study biochemistry with the goal to play club squad sports and maybe try to walk onto the lacrosse team in her sophomore year. Brady acknowledges she will keenly feel the absence of her playing days at Chase, where she was a part of back-to-back New England tournament semifinalist soccer teams and won a New England championship in basketball her freshman year. The basketball team also won the International Basketball Tournament in the Caribbean during her first year.

“It’s going to be tough because I’ve always had practice every day after school and games two days each week,” Brady said. “I love being on a team and the whole team aspect. … Not only to rely on the ability of yourself but the ability of your teammates.”

Chase Assistant Athletic Director Carol Deming spoke about Brady at the year-ending awards banquet: “She is one of the finest to come through our school. This young woman’s talent has been influential in the sports she has played these past four years.

“Her outstanding sportsmanship, the way she has conducted herself at practices and in games and her leadership has made every coach pleased to be associated with her.”
