Police Enforce

Commercial Truck Laws

On Tuesday, July 8, police conducted a commercial vehicle enforcement project on Route 25, in seeking to find trucks that violate motor vehicle regulations.

Four Newtown police officers worked with the state police’s western district truck squad in the effort.

The 17 tickets that were issued for various violations carry combined fines of $5,295, police said. Police took one vehicle off the road due to violations.

It is the seventh time during a two-year period that police have conducted truck enforcement projects, said Sergeant Christopher Vanghele.

During those seven projects, police issued a combined total of approximately $90,000 in fines, he said.

The truck enforcement project received partial funding from a $4,000 federal grant. The remaining grant money will be used for more truck enforcement, radar patrols, and crosswalk enforcement. Another truck enforcement project is slated for August.
