Lucy H. Strong

Lucy Hannum Strong, 90, of Huntington, died June 25 in Newtown. She was the wife of the late Clinton Searle Strong, who died in 1978.

She was born on August 20, 1912, in Easthampton, Mass., the only child of the late William and Rose (Sylvester) Hannum. After graduating from Easthampton High School, she continued her education at Wheaton College and Northampton Commercial College.

She is survived by her children, George E. Strong of Newtown, Clinton H. Strong of Hopewell, Va., and Ann S. Carpenter of Stony Hook, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Laura Hokanson of New London, N.H.

Mrs Strong was a secretary for her husband’s engineering firm, Technical Design & Development Company, in Milford. She was a longtime member of the Huntington Congregational Church in Shelton, and was active in its mission, particularly Circle 3 of the Women’s Fellowship. She embodied the old New England commitment to honesty and independence, which she instilled in her children, and she will be lovingly remembered.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 12, at 11 am, at the Huntington Congregational Church, Shelton. Interment will be at 3 pm in the Main Street Cemetery, Easthampton, Mass.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Connecticut, 237 East Aurora Street, Waterbury, CT 06708.

Arrangements were by the Bethel Funeral Home.
