Emma L. Sawyer, 74, of Northeast Road, Standish, Maine, died July 8 at her home.
She was born in Newtown, the daughter of Frank and Hilda Hill Strasburger. Her brother, Russell Strasburger, longtime Newtown resident and veterinary doctor, predeceased her.
Mrs Sawyer graduated from Hawley High School in Newtown, after which she attended nursing school. She was employed by Maine Medical Center for more than 20 years as a registered nurse, retiring in 1993.
Mrs Sawyer loved tennis, and her other interests included feeding and watching the birds, and traveling with her sister and brother-in-law. She also enjoyed the arts and music, and her family said she could have lived on Broadway. The greatest passion in her life was her grandchildren.
She is survived by three sons: Ron Sawyer of Hampden, Maine, Seth Sawyer of Westminster, Vt., and Micah Sawyer of Steepfalls, Maine; a sister, Beulah Conway of Emaus, Penn.; and four grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be Friday, July 11, from 6 to 8 pm, at the Dolby & Dorr Funeral Chapel, 76 State Street, Gorham, Maine. A graveside service will be held on Saturday at 10 am at the South Buxton Cemetery, Buxton, Maine.
