Laura Giesen, daughter of Jim and JoAnn Giesen of The Boulevard, recently graduated from the University of Richmond with a bachelor of science degree in biology. She intends to pursue a career in medicine. While at Richmond, she was a member of the Pi Beta sorority.
Justin M. Bowen of Newtown was recently named to the presidentâs list for the Spring 2000 semester at New Hampshire College.
Eighth graders Alexandra Helfen and Andrew Fiscella were among 280 scholar leaders honored at a banquet on June 5 at the Aqua Turf Club in Southington. The Connecticut Association of Schools sponsored the dinner. The award honored one girl and one boy in each middle school whose record of academic achievement and service has been truly exemplary, whose personal standards and accomplishments are a model for others, and who possess high levels of integrity, self discipline, honesty, and courage.
Daniel H. Smith, son of Mr and Mrs D.H. Smith of Sandy Hook, received a bachelor of arts degree in anthropology from Hobart College in Geneva, New York. Mr Smith also received the Hobart âStatesmen Scholarâ Award for his participation in a varsity sport (cross-country), contributions to the campus community, and grade point average. Mr Smith is a 1996 graduate of Newtown High School.
Erik Johnson, a 1995 graduate of Newtown High School, received a bachelor of fine arts degree in painting from Montserrat College of Art during recent commencement exercises. He is the son of Peter Johnson and Laura Bradshaw of Prospect, and Kathy and Al Berter of Hillsborough, NC. During his studies, Mr Johnson worked for the collegeâs maintenance department and was a library attendant. He received deanâs highest honors and was named to Whoâs Who Among American Students in American Colleges and Universities. He was also awarded the William and Ruth Fusco Prize at commencement.
Caragh J. Reilly, daughter of Barbara and Pat Reilly, graduated from Cornell University with a bachelor of arts degree in biology, with a concentration in neurobiology and behavior. While at Cornell she was a member of the class of 2000 council, and served on the senior week committee, as well as serving as an Arts and Sciences Student Ambassador. She recently completed a semester study abroad program at University College Cork in Ireland.
Sandy Hook resident Jacqueline M. Barresi was named to the deanâs list for the spring 2000 semester at Johnson State College in Vermont.
