Ferris Wins Lion Of The Year Award

At the last meeting of the Newtown Lions Club before the summer recess, Don Ferris was presented with a plaque honoring him as Newtown Lion of the Year. This is the first time this award has been offered.

Mr Ferris, a Newtown resident of many years standing, and a former honored Sikorsky Aircraft employee, who held the most patents in company history, has also done outstanding work for the Newtown Lions Club.

A participant in many of the club projects such as the Mustang raffle, the blood drive, and the pancake breakfast, Don Ferris is also known for picking up the pieces, filling slots, coming up with new ideas, and performing every task to his utmost ability. Along with Gary Fetzer, in May he chaired the Lions-Rotary Americares project in which the home of a Sandy Hook resident was greatly improved in a one-day project. At least 30 men assisted in the project as well as students from the Interact and Key Clubs at Newtown High School. All agreed that it was an excellent and satisfying project and it is projected that the project will be done again in 2001.

For all these efforts Don Ferris was presented with the Newtown Lion of the Year award.

The Newtown Lions end of the year banquet was held at the Old Newtown Tavern. Wives and other guests participated in the festive occasion. After dinner the second selectman, Bill Brimmer, led the group in singing songs, which was greatly enjoyed.
