Van Vs Rock

Motorist Carl Devino, 33, of Prospect was driving a 2001 Ford Econoline van westward near 1 Great Quarter Road about 4:30 pm July 7, when he struck a rock along the road’s right shoulder, lost control of the van and then swerved to the right, with the vehicle coming to rest off the road, police said.

Devino was not injured. Police said they verbally warned him for making a restricted turn.

Intersection Crash

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Wasserman Way and Berkshire Road about 5 pm July 3.

Police said motorist Stacey Maddox, 37, of East Setauket, N.Y., who was driving a 2004 Cadillac Escalade SUV carrying four child passengers, stopped at a red traffic signal on Wasserman Way.

When the signal turned green, the Cadillac proceeded to make a right turn onto Berkshire Road, but then stopped after Maddox saw a motorist driving through a red traffic signal on Berkshire Road, police said.

An unknown motorist, who also was turning right from Wasserman Way onto Berkshire Road, then struck the Cadillac from behind, but left the scene of the accident without providing any information to Maddox, police said. There were no injuries.

The offending motorist was reported to be driving a silver BMW, possibly a 3-series auto, which would have heavy front-end damage from the impact with the Cadillac, police said.

Police ask anyone with information about the incident to contact investigating Officer Matthew Hayes at the police station at 426-5841.

Mt Pleasant Collision

About 6:40 pm on July 7, motorist Peter Closius, 18, of Bethel, who was driving a 2000 Honda Civic coupe westward near 147 Mt Pleasant Road, stopped abruptly for a vehicle which had stopped in front of him, police said.

Westbound motorist Melissa Matthews, 37, of Woodbury, who was driving a 2008 Toyota Corolla sedan, then struck the rear end of the Honda, police said. There were no injuries.

Police said they verbally warned Matthews for following too closely. Police issued Closius an infraction for driving an unregistered vehicle.
