Ducklings Go

Down The Dam

By Sienna Cummings & Sasha Allen

Best friends Sienna Cummings and Sasha Allen, both age 7, recently watched as a female duck and her children played in the pond and then slid down the dam at Ram Pasture. Concerned, the girls watched to see what happened to the young family. Following is their account of what happened at Hawley Pond on Wednesday, July 1.

A mother duck with her ducklings at The Hawley Pond go down the dam one by one.

The mother does not know what to do. The dam is so slippery with green slime all over it that they slid down there. The mother duck just had to go down there.

The other ducklings ate really gross stuff that was in the water. The mother was waiting very patiently for the ducklings to finish eating. Then they started to go a little bit more under the bridge and stop. The mother looked around and started moving again. The ducklings would follow their mother wherever she went.

Sienna and Sasha rushed home to write their account. Since last week, Sasha has been back to the pond to confirm that the ducks have remained away from the dangerous dam and safely under their mother’s watch.
