Breast Cancer Resource Guide Free To Recently Diagnosed
FARMINGTON â In an effort to help answer some of the many questions women face when they are diagnosed with breast cancer, a group of advocates has compiled a unique resource book for Connecticut women. The Breast Cancer Resource Guide of Connecticut looks at different aspects that shape a womanâs journey through breast cancer treatment, from initial diagnosis to survivorship.Â
âAs a breast cancer survivor, I know how overwhelming it is to hear that you have cancerâ¦those words can truly stop your world,â says Dr Carolyn Runowicz, director of the Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Connecticut Health Center. âThis guide is meant to fill the void and answer your questions, as well as prompt questions that you can candidly discuss with your physician and care team.â
The easy-to-use guide provides timely information, covering a comprehensive range of topics from the biology and nature of cancer cells to treatment options, symptom management, financial advice and preventing a recurrence. It includes a list of cancer services available across Connecticut.Â
The project was made possible by a grant from the Robert G. and Marguerite M. Derx Foundation to the Carole and Ray Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center. The Derx Foundation is a Connecticut-based philanthropic organization that is dedicated to improving the quality of womenâs and childrenâs health and education.Â
Experts from the Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center, the UConn School of Medicine, the Lyman Maynard Stowe Medical Library and the American Cancer Society also served an integral part in making the guide a reality.
