Admirals Crush Danbury, Drop Doubleheader
The Admirals, an American Legion baseball team consisting of players from Newtown, Bethel and Redding, defeated Danbury and lost twice to Monroe in a double header this past week. Game highlights are as follows:
Admirals 15, Danbury 1: Zach Taylor threw a complete game one-hitter with nine strikeouts and the Legion Post 100-202 Admirals had 10 hits to go along with 10 walks on July 1 in Bethel. Dan Wogksch scored three runs and Cory Stevens and James Viscio each drove in two for the Admirals, who improved to 5-4 this season. Joe Fedak had two hits and scored two runs to raise his team-leading average to .421.
Monroe 10, Admirals 3: Adam Geriak, Clay Caron and Anthony Lucia each had RBI doubles to account for the Admiralsâ runs in the first game of a double header in Monroe on Sunday.
Monroe 10, Admirals 1: In the second game, Steve Fitzgerald drove in the lone run for the Admirals after Clay Caron had singled and advanced to third. Dan Wogksch went 2-for-4 and Anthony Lucia had the only other hit for the Admirals.
