CL&P Offers Heat Stress And Energy Bingo Workshops

 At Nunnawauk Meadows Senior Housing

The Connecticut Light and Power Company (CL&P) will conduct a heat stress presentation and an energy bingo on July 16, beginning at 12:30 pm, at Nunnawauk Meadows Senior Housing on Nunnawauk Road in Newtown.

The heat stress workshop provides important information on how to recognize the symptoms of heat stress and how to prevent heat-related illnesses.

“If you’re a senior citizen with health problems, you may be at risk. Therefore, it’s important to be aware of the warning signs,” said Martha Lemley, CL&P community relations representative. “Furthermore, temperatures above 90 degrees, like we’ve had the past couple of days, can pose a real health hazard.”

Immediately following the heat stress presentation an energy bingo workshop will be presented. Energy bingo is an innovative way to encourage senior citizens to participate in CL&P’s conservation programs. As numbers are called, tips about energy conservation, home safety, reliability improvement programs, and home security are discussed. In addition, energy-related prizes such as night lights, appliance timers, flashlights, and dual-powered radios are awarded to the winners. “Participants have fun playing bingo while receiving information on saving energy and safety,” said Ms Lemley.

Workshops on money management and energy conservation are available to any group located in CL&P’s service territory. Programs are scheduled through community-based organizations.

For more information or to schedule a workshop, call CL&P’s Community Relations Department in Norwalk at 800-286-5000, extension 3463.
