The Newtown Hawks U10 traveling softball team improved to 5-1 this week with wins over the Norwalk Zoomers (15-5), the Connecticut Hornets of Branford (19-2) and Cheshire (24-7).
The Newtown Hawks U10 traveling softball team improved to 5-1 this week with wins over the Norwalk Zoomers (15-5), the Connecticut Hornets of Branford (19-2) and Cheshire (24-7).
In the win over Norwalk, Megan Sajovic scattered two hits and whiffed seven in four innings. Jenna Legros pitched the last two innings and fanned three. Joanna Barry, Marley Koschel, Kate Bowen and Elissa Robertson had two hits apiece in a 14-hit attack. Stacy Broughton and Nora Lynn Shimko made strong defensive plays.
In the win over the Connecticut Hornets, Sajovic and Legros combined on a no-hitter. Meanwhile, Kelly Tenny and Barry each tripled as Shimko and Broughton doubled to power the offense. Katie Serock and Legros singled as Sajovic and Shimko starred on defense.
In the win over Cheshire, a 12-run, fifth-inning explosion broke open a close game. Shimko, Bowen and Legros combined on the mound for the win. Barry was 2-for-4 with two doubles, two singles, and six RBI. Bowen and Shimko also rapped RBI singles while Annie Hull and Renee Solheim scored runs. Melissa Fracker also hit the ball well while Chelsea Fay sparked the defense.
