Linda Connor Steps Down As Registrar
By Steve Bigham
Linda Connor has announced her resignation as Newtownâs Democratic Registrar of Voters. Deputy Registrar LeReine Frampton will replace her. She is scheduled to be sworn in later this week.
Mrs Connor served as registrar for four years after taking over for her mother, Susan Fernandes, in 1997. Mrs Fernandes was registrar for 27 years.
Mrs Connor, who steps down for personal reasons, has worked in the office of the registrars of voters since she was 18. She will remain there, filling Mrs Framptonâs deputy post.
âItâs been great, but it has come to a point where I need to concentrate on my family. I canât devote the time that Iâd like, especially with the municipal election coming up in November,â Mrs Connor said.
Mrs Connor said her most memorable moment during her four-year stint was her first municipal election.
âEven though I had worked there for so many years, I realized the amount of responsibility involved. You realize how many laws the registrar of voters has to know,â Mrs Connor said. âIt gave me an appreciation for the position and also taught me how important it is to be technical with an election.â
Mrs Frampton, who has worked in the registrars office since 1996, officially takes over as registrar of voters on Saturday.
