Dog Tags On Display

To the Editor,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank many people for their enthusiasm and participation in our “oldest dog tag” contest. Many of the people who participated didn’t have dogs any longer and did it just for the fun of it. The oldest dog tag was 1907 with the next oldest being 1914. People from outside Newtown donated dog tags and one lady donated nine dog tags from over the years. A couple from Newtown gave us 18 dog tags from her dogs she had while growing up, along with family pictures. Many of the dog tags had stories that came along with the tag and even more of them had great sentimental value.

These dog tags will be on display in the Town Clerk’s office and will eventually be in a permanent display case of some kind. Please continue to bring in those tags and we will always add them to our collection.

Thank you so very much to the following people: Donna Bond, Charles Botsford, Ann Conlan, Karen Daubert, Ed and Peg Forbell, Betsy Godfrey, Antoinette Higgins, Elinor Kluge, Jay Mattegat, Laura McKay, Virgil Procaccini, Jean Reilly, Doug Rogers, Edward Shanley, Marion Thompson, Nathaniel Treffeisen, Don and Grace Whittle, and Bill Wrabel.

This was a huge success! Thank you all!

Sincerely,

Cynthia Curtis Simon

Town Clerk
