Jennifer Garofalo
Jennifer Garofalo, 49, of Orlando, Fla., passed away on June 24, 2019, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on November 28, 1969, in Danbury. She was a Brookfield High School graduate in 1989. Later, she continued her studies and received her Bachelor’s Degree in English from Western Connecticut State University.
Jennifer resided in Danbury and New Milford for many years. In all the places she called home, she always volunteered her time at various local churches, soup kitchens, and homeless shelters. She spent many priceless hours working with children at the Harambee Center for Youth in Danbury, which she enjoyed thoroughly.
Jennifer had a passion for art, music, theology, and reading. She particularly enjoyed learning about different religions and enjoyed conversing with anyone on a variety of topics, but especially literature.
Jennifer was diagnosed less than a year ago and bravely endured multiple surgeries and treatments. She drew upon her faith, weekly lunches with her dad, and surprise packages and phone calls from loved ones to encourage her strength. The art of letter writing was a gift she taught and facilitated with her niece and nephew, as they exchanged letters often and shared the mutual joy of receiving written correspondence.
Jennifer is survived by her parents, James and Kathleen of Palm Coast, Fla.; a sister, Tina, also of Palm Coast; and her sister, Marybeth D’Amico of Newtown. Jennifer also leaves behind her much loved brother-in-law, Matthew D’Amico, and her cherished niece and nephew, Clara and James D’Amico, all from Newtown.
Jennifer held her friends and family close to her heart and was prided by her ability to recall and share memories of those whom she loved. Her voice, creativity, and generous spirit will be missed tremendously.
In lieu of flowers and to honor Jennifer’s passion for art and serving others, please consider donating to Harambee Center for Youth in Danbury.
