Warriors Baseball Highlights

Newtown Warriors summer baseball highlights:

Warriors 10, Weston 6: Trailing 6-2, the Warriors bounced back with five fourth-inning runs en route to victory last week at Newtown Middle School Field. The win moved the Warriors into first place in the Connecticut summer travel league.

The Newtown rally was sparked by Colton Sposta who crushed a two-run double to right center, and Austin Ekstrom who slapped an RBI single. Brock Chimileski, Austin Ekstrom, and Ben Stoller each scored two Newtown runs. Stoller also knocked in two runs with a single and stole three bases. Troy Larsen pitched two no-hit, shutout innings to get a save.

Warriors 15, Westport 4: Ben Stoller knocked in four runs, and Troy Larsen pitched brilliantly in relief at Westport’s Wakeman Field. The win kept the Warriors in first place in the Connecticut summer travel league. Stoller smacked a single, a double and a triple, scored four runs and stole four bases. Trailing 4-1 in the second inning, Larsen came in to pitch and immediately picked a runner off first base. He threw four shutout innings, yielding just one single. The Warriors took control of the game with seven third-inning runs. Stoller, John Lebinski, Austin Ekstrom, and Brandon Cooper slapped consecutive singles, and Larsen unloaded an RBI double to center. Larsen also knocked in two runs with a groundball single up the middle in the sixth inning. Ekstrom finished with two singles and two RBIs. Colton Sposta scored three runs and ripped a double down the left field line.

Newtown Generals 13, Warriors 3: Mike Daubert, David Gerics, and Mike Davis combined on a two-hitter to lead the Generals Saturday at Fairfield Hills Field.

The Generals scored ten second-inning runs, capitalizing on four hit by pitches, four walks, an error, timely singles by Daubert and Eric Pisani, and a bases-loaded double down the left-field line by Alex Lapinski.

The Generals put the game away in the sixth inning on two unearned runs against the Warriors’ hard-throwing right-hander John Lebinski. Ryan Pisani reached on an error, Tom Floros walked and Dominic Scarangella drilled a two-RBI double to left center. The Warriors’ hits were off the bats of Lebinski and Brock Chimileski. Chimileski reached base in all three at-bats, smashing a double down the left-field line, and walking twice. He stole two bases and scored two runs.
