Bad Check

After learning that police held a warrant for her arrest, Vicki Succow, 20, of Bethel, turned herself over to them at the police station on the afternoon of June 30, police said.

Police arrested Succow on a charge of issuing a bad check. Succow allegedly provided a bad check for approximately $105 to a Newtown merchant, police said. Police started their investigation into the case in late May.

Police released Succow on a promise to appear in Danbury Superior Court on July 13.

Honda Vs Deer

Motorist Jonathan Jenkins, 28, of New Britain was driving a 1999 Honda Civic southward on South Main Street, near Cedar Hill Road, about 1:20 am June 28, when a deer ran out into the street and struck the auto, police said. The impact damaged a car door and fender. The deer then ran off. Jenkins was not injured, police said.

Drug Charges

Police said they stopped an auto on Glover Avenue the night of July 5 for apparent motor vehicle violations and investigated.

That investigation resulted in Claudia Shanil, 17, of 36 Philo Curtis Road being charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, police said. Also, police charged Jeremy Wildman, 16, of Brookfield with possession of drug paraphernalia. The court date in the case is July 20.

Moving Violations

Police report that motorist Jose Gauchun Sumba, 37, of Danbury was driving northward on South Main Street on the afternoon of July 5, when a computerized records check indicated that the registration on the vehicle he was driving belonged on another vehicle.

Police then investigated and charged Sumba with driving while under suspension, driving without automotive insurance, misuse of marker plates, and driving an unregistered vehicle.

Police released Sumba on $250 bail for a July 23 court appearance.

Van Rollover

Motorist Richard Fattibene, 35, of Brookfield was driving a commercial 1998 GMC Safari van northward on Hanover Road at about 1:30 am July 4, when he lost control of the van, traveled over the road’s center line, hit curbing and a tree, and then rolled over to the right, with the van landing on its roof, police said.

Fattibene then left the accident scene, police said. Signs of injury were evident at the scene, police said. Police said the accident is under investigation.

Mt Pleasant

On the evening of July 3, Andrew Lambo, 18, of 8 Country Squire Road was driving a 1993 Ford Escort station wagon eastward on Mt Pleasant Road, as another motorist was driving a 2003 Saab westward there, police said.

Police said an investigation indicated that an object, which was thrown from the Ford, struck the Saab and damaged the Saab’s hood and windshield.

Police charged Lambo with throwing an object at a motor vehicle, driving while under suspension, and failure to have a turn signal.

Police released Lambo on $85 bail for a July 20 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Evading Responsibility

At about 8:10 am on July 1, a two-vehicle accident occurred involving an off-duty Newtown police officer and a local man.

State police said off-duty patrolman Robert Haas, 48, was driving a 2002 Saturn SL sedan on eastbound Interstate 84’s Exit 10 onramp, when the Saturn was struck from behind by a 1993 Chevrolet Suburban sport-utility vehicle driven by Dr Henry Gellert, 57, of 28 Grand Place.

After striking the Saturn, Dr Gellert drove away from the accident scene, state police said.

Haas received minor injuries in the accident and did not request an ambulance, state police said.

State police said they located Dr Gellert and issued him a misdemeanor charge of evading responsibility, plus a charge of failure to carry a vehicle registration.

Bicycle Found

On July 4, police received for safekeeping a mountain bike that was found at Sand Hill Plaza at 228 South Main Street. The owner of the missing bicycle should contact police at 3 Main Street to claim it.

Alcohol Charge

Police report they stopped motorist Steve Phillips, 18, of 24 Washbrook Road while he was driving on Church Hill Road on the night of July 6 to investigate.

Police charged Phillips with possession of alcohol by a minor and with driving while under suspension. Police released Phillips into the custody of his parents for a July 20 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

South Main DUI

Police said they stopped motorist Alan Toikka, 51, of 26 Osborn Hill Road while he was driving on South Main Street on the night of July 6 to investigate.

Police charged Toikka with driving under the influence, driving while under suspension, misuse of marker plates, and failure to drive to the right.

Newtown police said they learned that Westchester County police in New York State held an arrest  warrant on Toikka and are seeking to extradite him to New York.

Newtown police held Toikka on $100,000 bail for a July 7 appearance in Danbury Superior Court on the four motor vehicle charges.

Ford Off Road

Police report that motorist Daniel Monckton, 21, of 126 Toddy Hill Road, who was driving a Ford Mustang southward on Little Brook Lane on July 6, had just negotiated a curve in the road and was traveling fast, when he lost control of the vehicle. The Ford veered off the right side of the road, struck several small trees and then went off an embankment, dropping about 20 feet and landing rightside up near railroad tracks near 24 Little Brook Lane, police said.

Monckton, who was not injured, got out of the heavily damaged auto and walked home, police said. Police said they issued him an infraction ticket for making a restricted turn.

Appleblossom Sideswipe

Police report that motorist Stacey Zimmerman, 30, of 20 Kaechele Drive was driving a 1999 Saturn SW-2 station wagon southward on a curve on Appleblossom Lane at about 9:35 pm July 3, as another motorist, who was traveling northward, sideswiped the Saturn, damaging it. The offending vehicle continued onward without stopping, police said.

Neither Zimmerman nor a passenger in the Saturn were injured, police said. Zimmerman described the offending vehicle to police as “ a small car.”
