What’s A Blight?

To the Editor:

A recent bike ride through a new “neighborhood” in Sandy Hook reminded us of reading about First Selectman Herb Rosenthal’s desire to pass an eyesore ordinance. He has advocated ridding the town of such “old and unsightly” “blights” as the defunct Texaco station on Church Hill Road.

This is commendable, but there is a concern of greater long-term importance. Let’s add to the definition of eyesore the sprawling housing developments that lead to the destruction of the natural beauty and open spaces that make Newtown special.
