Courtney Steele of Newtown, a 2000 graduate of Newtown High School, will be joining the University of Scranton menâs basketball team for the 2001-2002 season, head coach Carl Danzig announced. Steele, who finished third on the all-time scoring list at Newtown High with 860 points, played at the St. Thomas More Prep School last year and helped the Chancellors finish 26-7 while scoring 25 points a game.
âIâm really excited to have Courtney join our program,â said coach Danzig. âHe was a very dynamic player for Jere Quinn at St. Thomas and I think he is going to provide some needed athleticism for our program. Heâs a kid who can play above the rim. He also has the ability to go inside or outside and has explosive capabilities.â
