House Burglary

Sometime between 9 pm on June 22, and 5 pm on June 26, someone illegally entered a home on Toddy Hill Road, near its intersection with Quarry Ridge Road, and stole approximately $1,900 worth of jewelry, police report.

Police are investigating the burglary/larceny and ask anyone with information on the incident to contact Officer John McCluskey at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841.

Bicycle Found

On July 3, police reported that a Huffy-brand bicycle had been found in a grassy area near the intersection of South Main Street and Bryan Lane. The bike had been in that area for about one week before its presence was reported to police. The owner may claim the bicycle at the police station where it is being held for safekeeping.

Lazybrook Road

Police report vandalism having occurred on Lazybrook Road, a dead-end street extending from Meadow Brook Road in Botsford.

Sometime between 11:15 pm on July 1, and 8:30 am on July 2, someone intentionally damaged several curbside residential mailboxes, police report.

People with information on who caused the damage should contact Officer John McCluskey at the police station.

Evading Responsibility

About 12:52 am on July 2, an unknown vehicle that was traveling northward on South Main Street, went off the right side of the street near Abbey Lane, police said.

The vehicle then struck a stop sign on Abbey Lane at its intersection with South Main Street, police said. The driver of the vehicle left the area without reporting the incident.

Evidence gathered at the scene indicates that the offending vehicle may be painted red and be of German origin, police said.

Police ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact Officer Steven Santucci at the police station.

Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for her arrest in connection with a 2010 incident, Bonnie Cypher, 55, of Gaylordsville went to the police station about 5 pm on June 30.

Police said they charged Cypher with second-degree failure to appear in court, traveling too fast, and driving under suspension.

After processing, police released Cypher on $150 bail for a July 14 court appearance.

DUI Arrest

Police report that at about 2:20 am on July 3, they stopped motorist Daniel Pires, 31, of Bridgeport on Wasserman Way, near Oakview Road, to investigate a motor vehicle violation.

That probe resulted in police charging Pires with driving under the influence and with failure to obey traffic signs and markings.

After arrest processing, police released Pires on $100 bail for a July 14 court appearance.

Mailbox Found

On July 2, a white metallic residential mailbox bearing the number 10 was found near 59 Platts Hill Road, police said. Police are holding the mailbox for safekeeping. The owner may claim the mailbox at the police station.

Accident

A two-vehicle accident occurred on South Main Street near Lovell's Lane about 12:28 pm on June 30.

Police report that motorist Thomas Monks, 50, of Trumbull was driving a 1999 Ford Crown Victoria sedan northward on South Main Street, as motorist Chelsea Rich, 22, of Prospect, who was driving a 2006 Jeep Liberty SUV, was attempting to exit Lovell’s Lane to turn left onto southbound South Main Street.

The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police said they gave Rich an infraction for failure to grant the right of way.

Chain Reaction

A three-vehicle chain-reaction accident occurred on Berkshire Road, near Toddy Hill Road, about 5:33 pm on June 30.

All three vehicles were headed westward on Berkshire Road when the incident occurred.

A 1995 Mercury Sable station wagon driven by Jonathan Vertti, 20, of Lancaster, Penn., struck the rear end of a 2009 Honda Fit hatchback driven by Sharon Lausier, 45, of Naugatuck, pushing the Honda into the rear end of a 2008 BMW 328-I station wagon driven by Anne Zopfi, 66, of Stamford, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they gave Vertti a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, failure to carry a vehicle registration, and failure to carry an automotive insurance card.

Subaru Vs Pole

Motorist Mark Bonamici, 21, of 37 Tunnel Road was driving a 1986 Subaru Impreza eastward on Currituck Road, near Brennan Road, when he crossed into the opposite lane and went off the left side of the road at about 11:34 pm on June 27, police said.

The Subaru struck a utility pole. Bonamici was not injured. Hawleyville firefighters and local ambulance volunteers responded to the accident. Utility crews replaced the pole.

Police said they gave Bonamici an infraction for failure to drive to the right on a curve.

Taunton Lane

Motorist Edward Gaddis, 21, of 15 Fairchild Drive was driving a 1995 Ford Taurus sedan southward on Taunton Lane about 2:22 am on June 25, when he struck a large rock along the road’s right shoulder, police report.

Gaddis was not injured. Police said they issued Gaddis a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

South Main Impact

While both vehicles were headed northward near 71 South Main Street about 5:08 pm on June 29, a 2001 Ford F-250 pickup truck driven by Ian Hripak, 18, of 96 Glen Road, struck the rear end of a 2003 GMC Envoy SUV driven by Jeanette Rios, 40, of Waterbury, police report.

Rios was examined at the scene by emergency medical services staffers, but was not transported, police said. Police said they gave Hripak a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Church Hill Crash

About 5 pm on July 1 on Church Hill Road, near the Exit 10 interchange of Interstate 84, motorist Amy Farley, 54, of Bethel, who was driving a 2004 Toyota Highlander SUV, stopped for traffic conditions, after which the Toyota was hit from behind by motorist Diana Schwichtenberg, 20, of 4 Cottonwood Trail, who was driving a 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer sedan, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they gave Schwichtenberg an infraction for following too closely.

Three Vehicles

Motorist Jeffrey Beaurline, 44, of 1 Swamp Road, who was driving a 2010 Ford station wagon southward on South Main Street about 10:19 am on June 29, stopped in preparing to make a left turn onto Swamp Road, police said.

Southbound driver Sebastian Petruzello, 76, of Ansonia, who was driving a 2006 Volvo truck, then slowed behind the Ford, police said.

Southbound driver Jeffrey Fiumara, 54, of New Britain, who was driving a 2001 Kenworth truck, then struck the rear end of the Volvo, pushing the Volvo into the rear end of the Ford, police said.

Beaurline reported neck pain, according to police. Fiumara received an infraction for following too closely, police said.

Highway Crash

State police report a two-vehicle accident on westbound Interstate 84, about 100 feet west of the Exit 9 on-ramp, about 10:28 am on June 29.

Motorist Linda Meola, 55, of Shelton, who was driving a 2011 Subaru, slowed for traffic conditions, after which motorist Eric Wipfler, 48, of Terryville, who was driving a 2008 Toyota, also slowed and attempted to avoid contact, but struck the rear end of the Subaru, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police said they gave Wipfler an infraction for following too closely.

Toddy Hill Road

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Toddy Hill Road and Still Hill Road about 6:53 pm on July 5.

Police said that motorist Helen DeRosa, 87, of Trumbull, who was driving a 1998 Oldsmobile 98 sedan, was attempting to make a right turn from Still Hill Road onto northbound Toddy Hill Road, as motorist Joel Minor Miranda Guerra, 23, of Brewster, N.Y., was driving a 2001 Mitsubishi truck northward on Toddy Hill Road.

The two vehicles collided. DeRosa was transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said. Sandy Hook firefighters responded to the incident. The accident is under investigation.
