Dorothy Berger Samose, 91, of Westport, died peacefully at her home, June 29. She was born in Texarkana, Texas, May 29, 1920, the daughter of Alice Moss Snyder and Frank Snyder.
Mrs Samose is survived by her three children, including Wendy Berger Margules, and her husband Dr Richard Margules, of Newtown; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Her husband, Morton Samose, predeceased Mrs Samose, as did a daughter, Kerrin.
She grew up in San Antonio, Texas, and New York City, where her father was a professional baseball player with the New York Giants. She moved to New York City where she had a long career modeling with The John Robert Powers Modeling Agency. While there, she met and married Morton Berger, a noted New York photographer. They moved to Westport in 1949, where she has lived ever since. In 1975, having been a widow for 13 years, she married Morton Samose of Westport.
Mrs Samose was an active member of the community. She was instrumental in helping form the PTA, and was an active participant in the Coleytown Capers. She was also involved in the fashion industry in New York City and Westport, and was the manager and buyer for Young Sophisticates womenâs boutique in Westport and Treasure Cove. In the 1970s she was the fashion director for Robert Hall Clothing, Inc, in New York City.
Graveside services were scheduled for Friday, July 8, at 12:15 pm, in Christ and Holy Trinity Church Cemetery, Westport.
