Tara Cerreta, daughter of Nancy and Chick Cerreta of Sandy Hook, graduated from Stony Brook (N.Y.) University, and was recognized for her outstanding academic performance during the universityâs Baccalaureate Honors Convocation on May 24. According to the university, the Baccalaureate Honors Convocation recognizes students who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to academic work and to the university community. Tara was also accepted into New York Medical Collegeâs School of Medicine, Valhalla, N.Y., as a member of the Class of 2015.
Harrison Depuy, son of Nancy and Fred Depuy, was announced recently as a United States National Leadership and Service Award Winner by the United States Achievement Academy. Harrison, a Newtown Middle School student, will appear in the United States Achievement Academyâs Official Yearbook, which is published nationally. The academy recognizes fewer than ten percent of all American middle school students with the award. Winners are accepted based on standards set fourth by the academy, which look at a studentâs academic performance, interest and aptitude, leadership qualities, responsibility, enthusiasm, motivation to learn and improve, citizenship, attitude, cooperative spirit, and dependability.
Brian Cullinan of Newtown graduated from Boston Collegeâs Carroll School of Management on May 23 with a bachelor of science degree in management and leadership.
Erica Federman graduated magna cum laude on June 17 from Northwestern University of Evanston, Ill., with a bachelor of arts degree in psychology and a minor in business institutions.
Robert Eckenrode was named to the Deanâs List for the spring 1 semester at West Virginia University, Morgantown. The Deanâs List at the university requires students attain a grade point average of 3.5 and be enrolled in at least 12 credits for the semester.
Norman Taylor Perry, son of Joan and Brian Waters of Newtown and N. Scott Perry of Falmouth, Maine, graduated from Ben Bronz Academy, West Hartford, in June, with honors. Norman plans to attend Massachusetts Maritime Academy this fall to pursue a degree in marine engineering.
Shannon Seaman earned recognition on Roger Williams Universityâs Deanâs List for the spring semester. To be eligible for the Deanâs List at the Bristol, R.I., university, students must earn a grade point average of 3.4 or higher and complete a minimum of 12 credits during the semester.

 Elizabeth Philbrick of Newtown graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in biochemistry and Spanish from Tufts University, Medford, Mass. Elizabeth was also named on the schoolâs spring Deanâs List.

Lauralton Hall, a Milford college preparatory school for girls, recently released the names of Newtown and Sandy Hook residents who were named on the schools high honor and honor rolls for the fourth quarter at the school. Earning high honors were Sandy Hook residents Alexandra Hamar, Kelly Ann McCarthy, and Amanda Watson, and Newtown residents Megan Murphy and Katherine Siroky. Earning honors on the list were Sandy Hook resident Christina Gould and Newtown resident Mary Siroky.
Western Connecticut State University recently released its spring semester Deanâs List. Full-time Newtown students who earned a place on the list are Kimberly Andrews, Lillian Arena, Erik Birden, Nicole Bounty, Michael Brennan. Brett Borroughs, Matthew Biscoe, William Dornburgh, Chelsea Fowler, Laura Frattaroli, Tyler Grant, Elizabeth Gugino, Sarah Hall, Kristina Hansen, Charles Hill, James Hilton, Richard Klein, Kelly Lindell, Michael Mark, Catrina Morgan, Kevin Oâconnell, Constance Ricciardi, Alexandra Saboe, Kelly Stendahl, Brian Straniti, Crystal Wilder, Nancy Wilder, Katelyn Wise, Nicholas Wolf, and Dora Wood. Sandy Hook residents who attend the university full-time and made the Deanâs List are Kialynn Bird, Dennis Conti, Melissa Fracker, Lindsey Jones, Matthew Jones, Sabrina Krievins, Andrew Lambo, Brittany Lindquist, Emily Lockhart, Blayze Markoya, Brittany Papaj, Jeffrey Schmidt, and William Whamond. James Webb of Sandy Hook was also named to the Deanâs List for part-time students.
The following local students earned highest honors for the spring semester at Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs, N.Y.: Grace Galie, daughter of Louis and Martha Galie of Newtown, and Sean Ryan, son of Jack and Pat Ryan of Sandy Hook. Highest honors are awarded for a quality point ratio of 3.67 or more from a possible 4.0.
Austin Hubbert of Newtown and Emma Iannini of Sandy Hook were named to the spring term Deanâs List at Choate Rosemary Hall in Wallingford.
The Loomis Chaffee School, a boarding and day coeducational school in Windsor, recently released the names of local graduates from the Class of 2011. Jocelyn Toll of Newtown, an honor roll student, received English departmental honors. During her time at the school she was a peer counselor, residential assistant, a PRISM member, JV volleyball captain, and a varsity volleyball player. Jocelyn plans to attend Boston University in the fall. Robert Carroll of Sandy Hook, a high honor roll student, received the Sellers Faculty Prize. He was a residential assistant, and received the Coaches Award on the Boys Varsity Water Polo team as the captain. Robert plans to attend Colgate University in the fall. The Loomis Chaffee School also released the names of local students were earned recognition on the schoolâs honor and high honor rolls for the spring term. Robert Carroll of Sandy Hook earned recognition on the honor roll. Francis Afriyie of Sandy Hook, Jocelyn Toll of Newtown, and Shannon Deveney of Newtown were named on the high honor roll at the school.
Rachel K. Rockwell of Newtown, was named with second honors on the Clark University Deanâs List at the Worcester, Mass., university. To be eligible for second honors, students must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher, of a maximum of 4.3 scale.
Newtown residents Joanna Barry, Danielle Nicolosi, and Rachel Nicolosi, and Sandy Hook residents Ashley Balsano, Carly Doherty, Ian Tran, and Scott Whalley were named to the spring Deanâs List at Central Connecticut State University, New Britain. An undergraduate student at the university must carry at least 12 academic credits during the semester and earn at least a 3.5 grade point average out of a possible 4.0 to be eligible for Deanâs List.
