Nurses Inducted Into International Honor Society

DANBURY — Seven nurses from Danbury Hospital and its affiliate, the Danbury Visiting Nurse Association, were recently inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society, Kappa Alpha Chapter, at a ceremony at Western Connecticut State University in Danbury.

The mission of the association — the second largest nursing organization in the world — is to create a global community of nurses who lead in scholarship, knowledge, and technology to improve the health of the world.

The new Danbury Hospital inductees include: Michelene Wray, 10 Tower and 12 Tower; Janice P. Van, Cardiac Rehabilitation; Kristy Dixon, coordinator of nursing education, cardiology; and Cynthia Palmer, clinical leader of the Family Birth Center.

Inductees from the Danbury Visiting Nurse Association are Mary Ann Faraguna, executive director; Lori Simmons, manager of clinical operations; and Brian O’Loughlin, clinical supervisor.

Association membership is by invitation to baccalaureate and graduate nursing students, who demonstrate excellence in scholarship, and to nurse leaders exhibiting exceptional achievements in nursing. Sixty-one percent of active members hold master’s and/or doctoral degrees. Forty-eight percent are clinicians, 21 percent are administrators or supervisors, and 20 percent are educators or researchers.

Since its founding in 1922, more than 360,000 nurse scholars have been inducted into Sigma Theta Tau. It has members in more than 90 countries and territories around the world.
