NMS Students Honored

Newtown Middle School students Renee Rushefski and Brian Bonacci were two out of 292 scholar leaders honored at a banquet on June 6 at the Aqua Turf Club in Southington.

The award honors one girl and one boy in each middle school whose record of academic achievement and service have been truly exemplary, whose personal standards and accomplishments are a model for others, and who possess high levels of integrity, self discipline, honesty, and courage.

Dr Robert Spear, executive director of the New England League of Middle Schools, was the keynote speaker for the event. The master of ceremonies was Scott Gray from WTIC AM 1080. The Sage Park Stage Band from Windsor, under the direction of Frank Hooper, provided the musical entertainment.

The Connecticut Association of Schools, McDonald’s Owner Operators of Connecticut, and the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of New England sponsored the banquet with 1,459 in attendance.
