End Of The Year Concert At Reed
End Of The Year Concert At Reed
By Susan Coney
Fifth and sixth grade students from Reed Intermediate School gave a final end of the year performance for a special audience recently. The Reed Singers under the direction of Michelle Tenenbaum and the Reed Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Mardi Smith entertained seniors from the Cascades, an assisted living facility in Bethel. The entire student body of Reed also enjoyed the performance, which took place in the school cafetorium.
Some of the musical numbers performed by the Reed Chamber Orchestra were âThe Star Spangled Banner,â a Handel Overture and an American Spiritual entitled âRoll, Jordan, Roll.â
The Reed Singers performed such favorites as choral highlights from Fiddler on the Roof and Phantom of the Opera.
Both music groups are comprised of students that volunteered for this after-school program. Students are required to audition for the Reed Chamber Orchestra; the Reed Singers is made up of all students who express an interest in joining.
After the performance the seniors and performers had an opportunity to met and discuss the performance. Ms Tenenbaumâs mother, Blanche Naidich was one of the seniors who enjoyed the concert.
