Arrest Warrant

Early on the morning of July 1, Alex Colon, 35, of Bethel was turned over to Newtown police, who held an outstanding arrest warrant against him.

Police said they charged Colon with second-degree failure to appear in court, as well as driving while under suspension and failure to display headlamps. Police said the original arrest stems from an April 11 motor vehicle incident.

Police held Colon as a prisoner in the police station lockup on $1,200 bail for an arraignment later that day in Danbury Superior Court.

Mercedes Crash

Motorist Jorgen Prest, 63, of Carmel, N.Y, was driving a 1993 Mercedes-Benz 190E-2.6 sedan westward on Wasserman Way about 8:20 pm June 27, when the vehicle, for some unknown reason, accelerated, went out of control, went off the right road shoulder, and then struck a chain-link fence in front of Reed Intermediate School, after which the auto rolled over, police report.

Prest, who received an arm cut in the crash, was treated at the scene by ambulance staffers, police said. Police issued Prest an infraction ticket for making a restricted turn.

Honda Vs Honda

Motorist Peter Moreno, 17, of Southbury, who was driving a 1997 Honda Accord near 46 Church Hill Road about 7:41 pm June 28, slowed to make a left turn into a parking lot and was struck from behind by motorist Nena Pierson, 19, of 2 Fox Hollow Lane, who was driving a 1991 Honda Civic, according to police.

There were no injuries in the mishap. Police verbally warned Pierson for following too closely.

Tractor-Trailer

At about 6:42 pm June 29, tractor-trailer truck driver Richard Tessier, 30, of Laval, Quebec, Canada, who was stopped at a traffic signal on westbound Mile Hill Road at its intersection with South Main Street, rolled backward, police said.

In rolling backward, the truck struck the front end of a stopped 1996 Lexus ES-300 driven by Cristina Imperio, 37, of Trumbull, police said. There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Tessier for unsafe backing.

Dodgingtown Mishap

Westbound motorist Richard Bilangi, 54, of 23 Sturges Road, who was driving a 2003 Honda Accord on Dodgingtown Road, slowed to make a left turn onto Cemetery Road about 4:27 pm June 29, police report.

Westbound motorist Glen Cleary, 36, of Bethel, who was driving a 1999 Dodge pickup truck behind the Honda, swerved to the right in order to avoid a collision with the Honda, but struck an embankment along the right road shoulder, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Cleary for traveling too fast for conditions.

Monroe Man DUI

About 10:30 pm June 30, police said they observed motorist Raymond Kobza, Jr, 36, of Monroe driving erratically on South Main Street, after which they stopped him on Queen Street to investigate.

On investigating, police arrested Kobza on charges of driving under the influence, failure to drive to the right, possession of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while under suspension, and failure to return a suspended license to the state Department of Motor Vehicles.

After processing his arrest, police released Kobza on $100 bail for a July 13 court appearance.

Rear-Ender

Northbound motorist Roberto Villegas, 20, of Monroe, who was driving a 1993 Ford coupe northward on South Main Street, near Prospect Drive, about 1:35 pm June 28, drove into the rear end of a 2002 Ford truck driven by Edward McHugh, 67, of Pittsfield, Mass., police said.

There were no injuries. Police said Villegas was following too closely and was driving without a valid driver’s license.

Four MV Offenses

Police report they stopped motorist Julio Valdivieso, 30, of Danbury at Exit 11 of Interstate 84 about 8:30 am on July 2 to investigate. Police charged Valdivieso with failure to display a front marker plate, driving an unregistered motor vehicle, driving without automotive insurance, and misuse of marker plates. Police released Valdivieso on a written promise to appear July 19 in Danbury Superior Court.

Baseball Glove

On July 1, police received for safekeeping an adult-size first baseman’s baseball glove, which was found on Church Hill Road, near its intersection with Wendover Road.

The owner may claim the glove at the police station, 3 Main Street, telephone 426-5841. Sergeant Darlene Froehlich is in charge of found items.

Mile Hill/Queen

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Queen Street and Mile Hill Road about 12:18 pm June 23.

Motorist Phyllis Hirschauer, 58, of New Fairfield, who was driving a 2003 Subaru Legacy station wagon, stopped at a stop sign at the end of Queen Street, and then attempted to turn left onto eastbound Mile Hill Road, but collided with motorist Cecilia Urban, 42, of 48 The Old Road, who was driving a 1987 Cadillac Cimarron eastward on Mile Hill Road, police said.

Police said Urban experienced facial pain in the accident. Police issued Hirschauer an infraction ticket for failure to grant the right of way.

Flagpole Accident

A two-vehicle took place at the Main Street flagpole about 3 pm July 4.

Motorist Jamie Matonas, 21, of Brookfield was driving a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta sedan northward on Main Street, police said. At that time, motorist Carl Rhodes, 83, of Westport, who was driving a 2002 Toyota Camry westward on Church Hill Road, was making a left turn onto southbound Main Street. The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries.

Police issued Rhodes an infraction ticket for a stop sign violation.

Sugar Street Crash

Motorist Robert Napiorkowski, 30, of Grand Rapids, Mich., was driving a 1993 Plymouth Grand Voyager westward on Sugar Street, as motorist James Miner, 45, of 35 Dodgingtown Road, was driving a 2005 Ford F-250 pickup truck eastward there, police said.

The Plymouth then attempted to turn left onto Hattertown Road, but collided with the Ford, police said.

Ambulance volunteers transported Miner to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said. Police issued Napiorkowski an infraction ticket for making a restricted turn.

Unlawful Restraint

Police report that Kenneth Wielebinski, 41, of 41 Hundred Acres Road spotted a woman near some construction equipment, which was parked in a lot next to that address at about 5:42 pm July 4.

Wielebinski apparently thought that the woman was damaging the equipment, police said. As the woman jogged into a nearby field, Wielebinski followed her and then grabbed her and told her that he was making a citizen’s arrest, police said.

Wielebinski then forcefully escorted the woman to the 41 Hundred Acres Road area, as she shouted for help, police said. Wielebinski called police to the scene to investigate the matter.

Police said they found no damage done to the construction equipment and then arrested Wielebinski on a charge of second-degree unlawful restraint. He is scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on July 21, police said.

Burglary Charge

State police report that at about 9:10 pm on July 2, they stopped motorist Jesse Campbell, 35, of New Haven on Interstate 84’s Exit 11 off-ramp because the vehicle he was driving had no front marker plate.

State police learned that New Haven police held an arrest warrant for Campbell on a charge of second-degree burglary, so they turned him over to New Haven police.

Ford Vs Ford

At about 2:48 pm on July 1, motorist Hector Rodriguez, 34, of New Britain, who was driving a 1999 Ford sedan, while traveling from the right lane to the center lane of eastbound Interstate 84, near Exit 9, collided with motorist Irving Rich, 67, of Shelton, who was driving a 1986 Ford van, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police warned Rodriguez for making a restricted turn.

South Main Crash

Police report a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Simm Lane and South Main Street about 2:49 pm July 1.

Motorist Michael LoBuglio, 43, of 9 King Street, who was driving a 2004 Volkswagen Passat, was making a left turn from westbound Simm Lane onto southbound South Main Street, when he collided with southbound motorist Linda Bates, 51, of 55 Sugar Lane, who was driving a 1993 Plymouth Grand Voyager, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned LoBuglio for failure to grant the right of way.

Three Vehicles

An accident involving a sport-utility vehicle, an automobile, and a pickup truck occurred about 5:14 pm June 24 at 228 South Main Street, near Sand Hill Plaza.

All three vehicles were traveling southward on South Main Street.

Motorist Helen Wigzell, 28, of Monroe, who was driving a 2002 GMC Yukon, could not stop in time and struck the rear end of a 1993 Oldsmobile Royale driven by Karen Booth, 53, of 13 Bear Hills Road, police said. That impact then pushed the Oldsmobile into the rear end of 2004 Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by Aguinaldo Silva, 35, of Bridgeport, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Wigzell for following too closely. Police issued Booth an infraction ticket for driving an unregistered vehicle.

Moving Violations

About 9 am July 6, police said they spotted motorist Dan Brenkman, 46, of Southbury making lane changes on Mile Hill Road without using his turn signals, so they stopped him.

Police charged Brenkman with failure to use turn signals, driving an unregistered vehicle, and driving without automotive insurance.

After processing, police released Brenkman on $100 bail for a July 18 court appearance.

CRV Off Road

Motorist Ross Alpert, 21, of 16 Middleton Road was driving a 1998 Honda CRV in a heavy rainstorm about 3:51 am July 6, and did not see a stop sign posted on northbound Mountain Laurel Lane at its intersection with Osborne Hill Road, police said.

Alpert drove through the intersection and then struck a curb and some boulders off the road, police said. Alpert was not injured. Police verbally warned Alpert for disobeying a stop sign.

    

Rear-Ender

Motorist Brenda Brede, 51, of 3 Abbotts Hill Road, who was driving a 2002 Ford Windstar northward on South Main Street about 3:52 pm July 6, signaled to make a right turn into a driveway at 91 South Main Street and was struck from behind by northbound motorist Altair Freire, 26, of Danbury, who was driving a 2005 Kia Rio, police said.

Freire reported back pain, police said. Police verbally warned Freire for following too closely.
