With wins over 707 On Main (16-8) and Huntington Homes (12-6), Walker Industrials remained undefeated in Newtown Women’s Slo-Pitch Softball action.

With the score tied 6-6 in the bottom of the fourth in the win over 707, Karen Corkum delivered a bases-loaded double to drive in three runs and break the game open. Walker scored another four runs in the inning to take an 11-6 lead.

Sharon Vetrano was 3-for-3 with a home run and four RBI while Corkum had a pair of doubles and three RBI. Marsha Moskowitz chipped in with two hits and three RBI as Connie Caruso sparked the defense with some exceptional plays at shortstop.

Leading 707 was Bridgette Sorensen, who belted out a pair of hits and drove in three runs at the plate. Lauren McCusker made three putouts at short.

In the win over Huntington, Walker snapped a 4-4 tie with three runs in the fourth and four runs in the fifth. A 21-hit attack was paced by Vetrano, who went 5-for-5 with three RBI. Sue Liss had three hits and two RBI while Jess Shivey banged out four hits with a pair of RBI. Rose DeSimone chipped in with three hits and two runs scored.

Marge Golankiewicz, Missy Desrochers and Lisa Dolyak led Huntington with two hits apiece.

In other action, Century 21 won its first game by a count of 23-8 over Newtown Exxon. Charlotte DuBail, Kelly Pintkey and co-captain Jeanne Carney all hit home runs as Carney and DuBail each went 5-for-5 in the win. Strong hitting also came from Karen Kelly, Joan Mareno and Karen Katrinak. Gwennann Reid played well in the field.

Davidson Insurance used two-run triples by Lisa Johns and Karen Powell to upend Kerler/GL 22-18.

Davidson then dropped an 18-13 decision to Hot Shots, which broke open the game with an eight-run explosion in the third inning and benefited when Marcy Maciolek and Sarah Jane Lewis each belted a pair of home runs.

Davidson – the former Dunkin Donuts Coolatas – came out strong in this one, scoring six runs in the first inning.

Weeknite

 

With wins over Danbury Medical Group (21-7), Hot Shots (16-4), 100 Church Hill (17-10), My Place (10-8), and Nice Guys Finish Last (17-6), Kellogg Hardwood remained unbeaten at 6-0 and on top of the Weeknite Slo-Pitch Softball League standings.

In the win over DMG, Chris Dennis, Chris Kachur and Jim Pope banged out four hits apiece. Against Hot Shots, Corbo belted a homer and George went 3-for-4 with a couple of triples. Against Church Hill, Chris Kachur was 4-for-5 while Brian Kachur was 3-for-4. In the win over My Place, M. Cody was 3-for-4 with a homer while Chris D’Angelo was 3-for-4. And against NGFL, R. Corbo was 3-for-4 with three runs scored.

In other action –

Cross Hill Sanitation hammered Nice Guys Finish Last (NGFL) 22-13 as Carlos went 4-for-5 with a homer and Jim M. went 5-for-5. Paul belted a homer and was 3-for-4 for NGFL.

Church Hill crushed DMG 23-11 as M. Lynch went 3-for-4 with two home runs and four runs scored and Rob Frangione went 3-for-3 with three runs scored. For DMG, Williams was 3-for-4 with a couple runs scored.

Hot Shots (10-2 and in second place) smashed Cross Hill 15-3 and John G. and Tom B. hammered out three hits apiece. Hot Shots also defeated O’Grady-Miller Construction 12-6 as Rick Kasbarian, Dave Samoskevich and Doug B. had three hits apiece. Doug O. went 4-for-4 for OMG.

The Hot Shots’ 15-3 win over My Place was made possible when Gene C. went 4-for-4 and Pete D. went 3-for-4 with a homer. Rich and Lou had three hits apiece for My Place. And in a 13-11 win over DMG, the Hot Shots were led by Tom B. (3-for-5) and Pete D. (homer).

OMG battered DMG 14-2 behind two triples from Jubba and a 3-for-3 effort by Tee O’Grady. Brian Cascone homered for DMG.

Church Hill defeated DMG 16-11 when Frangione and Bob Davenport each went 5-for-5 and Church Hill defeated NGFL 15-12 when Lynch and Marucilli each went 3-for-4 with three runs scored.

My Place defeated NGFL 12-5 as Tim DiPalma went 3-for-4. Mark was 3-for-4 to lead NGFL.
